A good way to make Breakcore drums?

  • So, is the idea here more about how to automate a process to create this chaos for you, with little effort, or is it more about the ideal workspace/workflow to be able to micro-edit the chaos by hand?

  • @rollin very nice.
I really like the chirpy birds up high.

Thanks  The song started off with the chirps (just playing about with FX chains).

  • Funnily enough, I contacted the devs yesterday, saying that I was also disappointed no update had come for Loopmix yet, but they assured me that an update featuring many or most requests will be out in January.

I wonder no one mentioned Loopmix. Honestly, I am a little pissed off by the developers approach towards iOS apps (they port it just to work, but neglect a lot of touch-control details), but still it’s IMHO one of the most straightforward solutions for various re-shuffling, re-pitching, re-versing, re-triggerrin, etc of inidivudal loop slices.
Someone already mentioned SugarBytes Egoist, which is quite similar, with some more instruments other than loop player/slicer/manger, maybe not as focused to one thing as Loopmix, but also useable.
Then also as a separate effector, Effectrix is interesting since it allows you to sequence various unique effects + automate some settings, for even wilder processing.
Also Drambo is not a bad choice, only it’s not working so well with pure audio, so it’s a bit less straightforward - you need to work with notes that are sliced (probably with Flexi sampler), which may be harder to follow, but now with Punch in FX and Looper you can too get the results you’re looking for.
Oh, and don’t forget Venetian Snares is using quite an odd time signatures like 3/7  Not sure if any sane person wants to go this way…

    +1 for SunVox.

You can glitch and chop as much as you desire.

I don't have any experience with breakcore, but make loads of jungle with it, and imagine there is some crossover with the production techniques.

I was chopping breaks within a couple of hours of first using the app with no previous tracker experience. (Although to be fair, my choppage is fairly simple).

    One example

Edit - just listened to the vsnares example, much easier to do all those edits in a tracker than midI roll style DAW.

Totally doable in SunVox. In theory anyway, good break chopping skills take time to master.

Nice beat juggling :) I still don't want to wet my toes in SunVox.

I thought about using Loopmix, but the effects are too limited atm. Maybe in combination with Effectrix. In Effectrix, you can assign an octave of keys to patterns. So, if i place an effectrix effect under every key (12 effects total) with a short loop length, i can set it after Loopmix in the chain. Downside: Can't play 2 effects at the same time as far as i know, unless you program 2 effects in a pattern. Next thing would be a midi-sequencer that triggers effectrix sparsely, otherwise its getting too wild, haha.

  • I did a little test with Sector as Sample-masher and Effectrix in chain. Effectrix is midi-controlled with Riffer as you can see in the video below:

Not really breakcore madness, but i'm still experimenting.

    That's terrific.
