Does Bandcamp allow explicit lyrics? Is there a toggle like on SoundCloud?

I know, I know, this is probably a really stupid question, but I'm currently working with a rapper who's going to appear on my next EP, and honestly I don't want him to hold back anything when spittin on my beat.

I tried searching the FAQs on Bandcamp and couldn't find anything. I tried googling "bandcamp explicit lyrics" only to be led to another deadend. Any answer would be appreciated.

Comments

  • Hello? Can anyone demystify this please?

  • They definitely accept music with explicit lyrics. Not sure about toggling on/off though.

    Thanks for letting me know. :) Much more useful info than their FAQ section. 😅

  • Absolutely

  • Every time I go to my Bandcamp site, or anyone goes there for that matter, there is a big blue banner across the page that reads: "We've updated our Terms of Use. You can review the changes here."
    I check "I agree" but I have to agree every time I'm there, a hundred times now. Anyway, I occasionally read the terms, here's what they say about content of uploaded material (I've highlighted the relevant bit. I don't know what they consider offensive, though. How could anyone know?)

    By way of example, and not as a limitation, you shall not (and shall not permit any third party to)
    either (a) take any action or (b) upload, download, post, submit or otherwise distribute or facilitate distribution of any content on or through the Service, including without limitation any User Submission, that:

    infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity or other right of any other person or entity or violates any law or contractual duty;

    you know is false, misleading, untruthful or inaccurate;

    is unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, deceptive, fraudulent, invasive of another's privacy, tortious, obscene, offensive, or profane;

    constitutes unauthorized or unsolicited advertising, junk or bulk e-mail ("spamming");

    involves commercial activities and/or sales without Company's prior written consent such as contests, sweepstakes, barter, advertising, or pyramid schemes;

    exploits people in a sexual or violent manner;

    contains software viruses or any other computer codes, files, or programs that are designed or intended to disrupt, damage, limit or interfere with the proper function of any software, hardware, or telecommunications equipment or to damage or obtain unauthorized access to any system, data, password or other information of Company or any third party; or
    impersonates any person or entity, including any employee or representative of Company.

    Damn! Well, the one track in question that I posted in my latest "2023" EP does have "don't be a bitch" and "shit" in it once each. I don't think that'd count as super obscene, offensive, or profane. But let's just say Die Antwoord would never be able to release on Bandcamp. 😂

  • hahaha!
    I've posted songs with "swear" words. Nothing has ever happened. I can't imagine anyone finding that obscene or offensive these days.

    Exactly! I don't find it offensive at all. (I tend to cuss casually in everyday conversations except if children are present of course. 🤣 But that's just me. Keepin it real.)
