Nice ittle demo of Latch from the sqsl dev, Miso
Like what I see. Have no idea how to use temp. I won a copy of Latch and have mostly figured out how it works. But Temp is a complete mystery. I can’t find a walkthru. It’s maddening. A promising app without documentation. Seems to be a thing.
I will do a walkthrough on Temp - it will likely get background running functionality soon so I might wait until then. Until then, there is documentation on the website, but you need to read it slowly and thoroughly because it is so terse.
this would be really nice if one of the channels could use cc to trigger player samples in AUM. that way you wouldn't have to leave the UI, just go to another channel in the app, nice for performance. AUv3 would be ideal, not sure if it is possible or if the dev wants to do that. I understand it was designed to midi control a desktop DAW. I have done that and it works nicely.
Ah, but it could trigger file player without much problem:
Open an instance of file player and open a file
Tap on the name of the file player channel (bottom of the channel
Click the eq icon to the left of the words 'edit channel x' to open the midi assign channel
Tap at the top of this pop up to choose your midi source - in this case choose AUM destination if that is what you have Latch set to send to
Click on 'file player' in the list
Click on 'play enable'
Now you have a choice - you can use a particular note to trigger file player, and this is the default in aum. You might find this a better choice than cc.
If you do want to choose cc, press the backwards arrow left of 'note' and choose 'cc'.
Now set up the channel number and cc you want to use.
If using a cc channel, a value of 0 from slider will stop play, any other value will trigger it
So u can see why using notes might be better, especially as latch latches notes by default, it may be an easier way to get precision over start / stop than CC messages where you will have to faff about with range and lag to get your timing right
Actually, after a bit of specific experimentation in Latch, I found that any cc value over 64 will trigger ON the file player, any below will trigger it off. This is interesting / strange, as using another lfo, say midiLFOs, will work in the way I described above
Anyway, I'm glad you brought this up as I totally hadn't thought of triggering file player with this but could be extemely interesting!
Thanks! I’m going to try this now.
Try Temp too if you have the funds. Totally different and also a joy to use. Just got an update allowing it to work in the background like Latch can now. I know that's not a big deal for most of us, and my mind boggles that I'm promoting apps with such shitty connectivity and no preset saving, but these are just such a pleasure to use, gorgeous, well-thought-out interfaces.
Gav, you're killing me with GAS. Please, it's unrelenting!
Was waiting on that… look forward to your tutorial Gav. Just thinking what sqsl latch and temp could produce together? Maybe something to think about.
Tutorial is coming, my covid is much better now and I’m raring to go. I still have a bit of a problem where my dog chewed up my mic, and even though I got exactly the same one again, from the official store, it’s not sounding right with my mic chain lol. Got to crank it up hard, ughhh….but yes, Temp tutorial coming soon!
Together…hmmm, let’s wait til I finish the temp vid 😂
Nice one Gav. Sorry to hear that your dog thought your mike was a treat! 😂
Man, the number of cables he has destroyed...not to mention costing me over a grand in medical expenses for a dog he attacked once. But he's generally the cutest and most fun and playful pup ever, absolutely love him to bits 🤷♂️
@Gavinski take good care and I wish you a Happy New year with a swift recovery ! You convinced me to buy this thing. Really enjoying it, but does it have a MIDI panic button ? I shut it down and my (hardware) synth continues howling... And do you know if any useful save / restore function is in the pipeline ? I find this a real drawback for an app in that price range.
Thanks! The dev is definitely considering adding a preset system but it would probably be best if as many people contact him as possible, asking for this, so he sees the demand. I agree it's a farcical and annoying limitation.
He's also looking into stuck note issues, again I'd suggest contacting him directly and asking for a panic button, would definitely be useful.
Gav, followed your instructions on triggering AUM file player with a note in Latch. Not working, probably a problem with my understanding. Going to look for a video that explains how to trigger with a note. Not sure such exists. Always an adventure!
I could probably make a short vid on that if you don't figure it out, but would be tmrw I reckon 👍
I think my instructions were for triggering it with CC, no? But triggering with note is certainly also an option
Gav, thanks. You don't need to make a vid on this. No doubt you have more important vids to make, like the recent Saga one. But thanks for helping!
