Puente's Lament - Daveypoo, The Mobile Music Minstrel

Happy Non-Denominational Holiday Season! I humbly offer you the gift that keeps on giving - my latest tune!!! It's a non-denomiracle!

  • A lament? Had me dancing around the house at 7am. One of my kids got up to see what the noise was, rolled their eyes, and went back to bed. I danced on :-)

@belldu Well, a lament simply because I'm not Latinx in any way or schooled in Latin Jazz - my mere presence white-ified it. And the title made me giggle.

So glad you liked it - dance on, my good sir. Dance on!

  • Nice work… did you hand edit all that Latin percussion and drum kit work? Or use some Lumbeats apps or MIDI Loops?
It’s a great mix of salsa and funk… the drummer slips into the “Headhunters” anticipated backbeat.

I got a kick out of the wah-wah filtering of the flute solo at the 2:30 mark.

Once organ rhythm work as we have come to expect from you. Did you get a real bass yet to do keep your chops up?

  • @McD Drum kit was programmed as per usual, percussion was a separate instance of Digistix2 so I could mix them properly. The opening bongos were played using my BopPad, and the rest of the percussion was programmed to sit with the beat.

That's not a filtered flute - it's a synth matching the flute to shake things up a bit. It ended up giving it a sort-of steel drum vibe which I really dig.

Still using the U-Bass. Likely won't be buying a new bass - just need to get the items shipped from the US when we have some extra dough.

  • Definitely a pure Latin groove.
Love the happy and jolly vibe.
    Got me dancing as well.
    Well done!

  • Thanks @ReneAsologuitar - I appreciate the good vibes. So glad you enjoyed it.

  • Definitely liking the flute lead here and the drums have a careful attention to detail that feels organic. Another fine track!

  • Thanks @MadeofWax - I've been really feeling the flute lately. Glad you liked it!

  • I recognize Goniometer. What are the rest of these awesome looking metering apps?

Thanks for the additional details… the hand crafted drummer pays big dividends for realism.

  • You wouldn’t have done this in California. Happy New Year, bro!

  • Happy Holidays to you @LinearLineman - I hope you and yours have a great New Year.

Thanks @McD - the goal is to never have the production get in the way of or overshadow the tune. Of course this community is always curious as to the process, but I would hope that the music and performances hold their own regardless.

  • Great track, great bass throughout , surely your in the wrong continent for this music🤔

I dunno - this wasn't composed on the other side of the ocean, so I think I'm exactly where I need to be :D

Thanks for the kind words, @GeoTony - I'm so glad you liked it.

  • “ the goal is to never have the production get in the way of or overshadow the tune.”
YES! Exactly right. Although good production can make good music even better. You have done that.
