Video editor that allows video effects to be controlled by audio envelope?
I just spent a good while googling to see if Lumafusion or DaVinci has a way to allow video effects to be modulated by an audio envelope follower. A simple example would be to have a blinking video clip controlled by audio with a tremolo effect.
Maybe there’s an editor that can be controlled by midi?
Does such an app exist?

Have a look at https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/jam-cam-video-fx/id1585575958
I prefer the new lder version but i dont remember why. Its called vfx
Visual Synthesizer isn't a video editor, but it has outstanding audio envelope support for the type of effects that you're trying to achieve. It can also be controlled by MIDI.
The only caveat with VS, is that it doesn't allow you to manipulate imported videos themselves, with envelopes, midi etc, only the shaders that are placed over those videos. Such a pity, it would be truly outstanding if it had more ability to manipulate imported images / video.
You can also use FAC Envolver to get audio envelope info into MIDI CCs and send that to MIDI capable video apps (like glitch clip, visual synth (the one by secret base design, etc..). I found you need to sometimes shift the resulting curve by a few negative milliseconds (you can use AUM, Atom 2 or Xequence to achieve that) to achieve results with a better feel for synchronicity.
I’ll check out all of the suggested apps. However, Davinci Resolve may be the best solution. There’s another thread here that shows a hack that enables Fusion. Then, I’m hoping this will work.
Would be nice if Apple brought Motion to iOS.
Just passing by.
What you can do with VS is import a video made from stills,
treat it as if it were stock animation in a way
and then you can automate that to a certain degree.
Obviously I did this using dRambo but any software that sends out midi can do this.
For example
Resolve Studio version (IAP). Especially since the Fusion Page is available with keyboard shortcuts. But I think there is a pre-made effect in the Cut Page, so no need to dive into Fusion. In Fusion you can do what you want, it's a high grade compositing application.
The good thing is, the iPad app is not really different to the desktop version. So you can learn simple effects through a large number of already available info and tutorials.
I’ll check that out. The problem with the otter apps suggested here is that they are premade effects where I’m looking to create my own effects by manipulating common settings such as “contrast” or “shadow”, etc.
Hey there! It sounds like you're deep into the world of video editing, trying to find an app that can do some pretty cool and unique effects. I'm not totally sure about an app that can be controlled by midi, but have you tried looking into online video compressors? It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it could be a helpful tool for making sure your videos are the right size and format for whatever you're trying to do with them. Good luck with your search for the perfect video editing app!
For those seeking a video editor that can control video effects using the audio envelope, check out software like Adobe After Effects or Alight motion. These tools let you link audio amplitude to visual effects, allowing for real-time synchronization of animations and audio cues. This feature is perfect for creating dynamic, music-driven visuals.
