Issue loading presets in Fundamental (v1, not v2)
I'm still running with the original Fundamental 1, having not had the budget to upgrade it. I went to load a preset that I had previously loaded in the app, and it's no longer showing up. I've looked in the notes, and online, and I'm struggling to find how to load it again. I have the file, and I've followed some YouTube instructions, but it's not showing up.
Please can someone help me out by sharing the best/most direct way to import a preset bank to Fundamental 1? Is it best to load from iPad, iCloud, or somewhere else? I tried from within the app, and also from Files app, from both iCloud and On my iPad. But the preset keeps opening Fluss instead of Fundamental when I try to load it. All other built in presets are working fine.

Are you able to share the preset from the Files app, and select the Fundamental app? If doing that triggers Fluss instead, you may be out of luck.
That's exactly what's happening @uncledave. I can't understand how it went missing from the app. I haven't used it in some months (or any other apps) due to illness. It was there when I last used Fundamental. I had installed it myself, and used it many times. It was my favourite preset. So frustrating to not find it there now, nor to be unable to find a way to load it, so far. I won't give up yet though…
Maybe delete Fluss, then try it, then reinstall Fluss?
You read my mind @Gavinski
It didn't work. Files doesn't seem to be able to find Fundamental. I'll try deleting and reinstalling that too. Before I go back and reinstall Fluss.
Oops. Deleted Fundamental, only to find it no longer available in the app store. That was pretty dumb of me. After 10 months off sick from the iOS music scene, I'm clearly very very rusty in the skills and brains departments. I can't currently afford to buy Fundamental 2.
Damn, what an annoying situation. I'm glad you're feeling better though at least, that's a long time to be ill!
Me too. I've learned that a lot worse things happen than losing an app. I'm in remission now from cancer, but still under treatment until July or longer (possibly the next five years), but the heaviest days are over. Hurray for that, and hurray for my iPad.
I just had a tip on the Fundamental 2 thread, to check in my purchased apps list, and bingo, there it was! Reinstalled.
That's rough Ando. At least you're in remission now, brilliant, and yes, I'm sure an experience like battling cancer puts a lot of other problems into perspective. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery 🙏
Thanks @Gavinski. I've developed great patience, persistence and a love of the simple things in life this year. And a great love of living in the here and now.
Hi @andowrites - don't know if this is what you've already tried but the way to import banks into Fundamental 1 is to tap the tiny down arrow labelled 'IMP' at the bottom right of the screen, next to where it says 'externOP', then navigate to the preset file in the file browser that appears. It can be quite tricky to tap this arrow - it's very small and insensitive! The imported bank should then be available from the 'BNKS' selector at the top right of the screen...hope this helps...!
Thanks. I tried from files, and this route, from in the app. Neither are working to load the preset file. I know the file works with Fundamental, at least previously, because I previously had this installed in it. It's so frustrating, as it's my favourite preset bank!
Do you remember if you originally exported the bank using the 'EXP' button by the 'externOP' label? If it helps, I'd be happy to take a look at the bank file to see if I can load it?
I'm afraid I don't remember clearly. I didn't export it. It came from Panic Girl. So I would likely have downloaded it then imported, but I don't remember how. I have tried downloading the file again, to confirm no corruption. It would be great if you could check the file out.
Have sent you a message...
Lovely. I'll get back to you shortly.
I've now tried a number of approaches to get this preset bank loaded and working again, with no success, despite @enkaytee helping me. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, you name it. The preset bank file isn't corrupted. I have downloaded a fresh copy, and @enkaytee had no problem installing it to Fundamental 1.
I'm running out of ideas now, and have no idea of how to get tech support, given that this app is no longer available in the app store. I would really appreciate any help or advice you've got here!
The issue is that when you install any of the Fudamental apps and run them standalone for the first time, a 'Fundamental' / 'Fundamental2' / 'Fundamentalorigins' folder SHOULD be created in 'On My iPad' with a couple of sub folders contained in it. One of these (called 'PresetBanks') is where you have to put any preset banks you wish to import into the app using a process which you carry out inside the app itself. In @andowrites case, the folders aren't being created even when the app has been deleted and reinstalled. I've got about as far as I can with this - does anyone else have any ideas...?
Fundamental 2 creates a folder called "Fundemantal2" in the files app. In this folder is another folder called "PresetBanks". Copy your preset bank into this folder and import the bank as described by @enkaytee. Worked for me (DivKid_Bank for Fundamental 1) 👍 i don‘t have Fundamental 1, but maybe importing banks works similar.
Unfortunately, in @andowrites case, the folder structure isn't being created when Fundamental is installed and run in standalone mode so there's nowhere to copy the banks for importing. It's a bit of a head scratcher...!
I've had a couple of emails with the developers, but no solution so far. They can't replicate the fault. I've tried in both versions of Fundamental, and neither app is creating the root folders it needs in On My iPad. Yet the app's own presets are there, in the app, and the app is fully working. No other issues with other apps doing this (so far).
If I had a lot of time on my hands, which I don't, I might do a factory reset, but it would be frustrating to do that if it didn't resolve the issue. Fundamental support did tell me they're only running on iPadOS 15. I'm on the latest. So perhaps there is a bug there.
I would welcome any further assistance with this, it's been such a time-consuming issue this past week.
I'm on the latest iPadOS too so I don't think that's the problem. Sad to say that a factory reset might be the only way to fix this. I recently had to reset mine and it wasn't too long a process - I started one evening, left it to reinstall apps overnight and it was complete the following morning.
I just had a further response from SonicLab:
Hi Ando,
We confirm that neither Fundamental 1 nor Fundamental 2 has any problems with iOS 16.2 ( We have installed this iOS version on one of the iPad’s. )
As expected there is the Fundamental directory with the PresetBanks folder inside it. You can copy custom preset banks there and import to the Fundamental app directory as instructed on the manual ( just launch the Fundamental standalone app , and click the IMP button at the bottom right of the screen and select the custom preset bank on the file browser )
best wishes
No further suggestions made. But it's beginning to look like I will need to do a factory reset. 😌
Good luck - let us know if it works.
Will do. I may not have time to tackle it until Tuesday. I'll be back. 🤞
Is it possible to manually create that folder structure in the Files app and then try it?
No - unfortunately that hasn't worked. It seems like the folders need to be created by the app.
I tried that several times already.
