GarageBand face control
I was fooling around with GarageBand on my couch just now doing a quick demo with some loops before I go down to the studio and do more with it on logic. I had one of the funk guitar loops that I merged to make an audio track so I could put it through an amp and some pedals.
I inserted a wah (which I don’t know that I ever even noticed was there before) and I saw a face icon appear next to the audio jack icon. I tapped on it, and it asked permission to use the camera. I then realized this is a way to control the wah pedal with facial movements? That’s pretty funny. Could be useful too.
I’m probably late to this party, but I’m going to explore if it works on any other effect or parameter in GB. I have no idea if you can record the automation or not, I’ll have to check that out.
I have a device I inherited from a producer I was assisting a few years ago when I helped him move out of his apartment of 40 years in NYC. We found some interesting things in piles of forgotten equipment, and among them was a mike Matthews mouth wah, where you have a device you put in your mouth and bite in to control the wah filter. I’ve never tried it, maybe I will now.

Ha yes, very fun !
If you are interested, you can also download apps from Nilson Ltd. They have mouth countroller and hand controller amongst other very useful MIDI apps. This way you can reproduce what GarageBand does but in any DAW (and not only iOS).
Interesting, I’ll check those out!
It’s a great feature, because I always do wah-face whenever I play a wah pedal. I don’t think it’s possible to wah without doing it.
That is the truth.

Mouth closed wah face counts too.
That’s called a talk box. It’s all over this track:
No, that’s a heil talk box on that track (also known well from sweet emotion, livin on a prayer, and Peter frampton). This device is called “Soul Kiss.”
The talk box combines the audio from your mouth with the audio from your guitar. The soul kiss is a wah filter and you open and close it by biting on the end of the device. I found it just now, so I’ll clean off the tips and try it out later.
Here’s a video I found of one:
