Bought. Looking forward to digging into this one for sure. I've not historically been a fan of recording bass as anything but direct, but NA's Blackice Beta/Gamma changed my mind. I've recorded with SansAmps in the past and didn't like them initially but had my mind changed when a friend who knew his way around it showed me what it's worth.
Anyway - I would love to hear other's thoughts on the SansAmp and the NI Bass Driver in comparison.
Was really hoping for Nembrini's take on an Ampeg B15 or at least a tube DI. Wonder what the cabinets are?
Well, this actually looks pretty interesting with two crossovers to adjust distortion and EQ on three bands. And these are the cabinets, and the B15 is there:
I haven't loved the included cab sims in the previous Nembrini apps, guitar or bass, so I tend to use the OwnHammer ones I like that I've got in Thafknar, but I'll give these a shot to see. Ultimately it's about what sits best in the track...
And to be fair, I'm running my U-Bass through this so it's not the truest representation of what it's capable of
This one is intriguing.
If you would be kind enough to check back after you fleshed it out a bit that would be awesome.
I trust your bass ear and I’d like to take advantage of the intro price. Thanks in advance.
@Ben I've been playing with it for a while tonight and I like it. Another tool in the toolbox. It definitely has that SansAmp flavor - a bit grindy, especially in the mids. I wouldn't describe it as big and fat, but I wouldn't say that about the original SansAmp either.
For as much as the Blackice BetaGamma is that beefy, thick, scooped sound, Bass Driver is that mid-grindy, more throaty tone. Nice alternative to the Blackice. I am a fan of Nembrini, so I know it'll be useful somewhere even if I don't have something in mind right off the bat.
As per usual, I don't particularly like the built in cab sims - I prefer it "direct" or through my OH cabs in Thafknar. But yeah - I dig it.
I hope that helped - it's easier to understand how this sounds if you're familiar with how a SansAmp sounds, for sure. I wouldn't go and buy an actual SA, but to have a software clone for $10 - definitely.
Hey thanks man. Just what I was looking for.
Never used a DI live for sound shaping. Had this old beast with a polarity switch that shut that terrible hum down.
I have BlackiceBetaGamma and like it but I think based on your description this may be up my alley.
I like the grindy in the mids tone.
10 bucks. Spent more at Starbucks this morning. Got some stars though😉.
Thank you, super demo!
It's very nice. But I've put it up against Neural Parallax (which has a similar feature set) and I wasn't able to get the same controlled, big bass sound I wanted. I don't really like Parallax (the distortion is more to my taste in Bass Driver) but in this instance it still came out on top. I was really hoping this would replace it as it has a few features that on paper look like a better option. I have a huge collection of Nembrini in the stable but this one is a little bit disappointing.
So I bought. If for no other reason these guys release so much free stuff.
This is the goods though.
Didn’t get anywhere near as deep as @eylvy did (thanks for the deep dive) but I like it a lot.
As soon as I got that low mid burn on my fretless I stopped there.
Good app @NembriniAudio.
I honestly believe this plugin/AUV3 should become the new recording industry standard for bass guitar. It really is that good. It has everything you need to find the perfect tone that will make every bass note audible in your mix without sacrificing any lows or being too loud. Check out the first pinned comment under my demo on YouTube for details of the giveaway for Bass Driver and Cubasis 3 codes for iOS.
@Jamie_Mallender , what is your opinion on new mp1 pro? did you have chance to test it?
Man - I wish they'd do the MB-1 which was the bass version. Two of my favorite bass players used one of those for ages and I've always wanted to try one. I came very close to picking up the MP-1 but when I realized it was the guitar/original version, I held off.
May still give this a go, but if they ever put out the MB-1 I'm all over it in a second.
I have it yes and I’ve tried it. Initial impression, I loved it. Great range of tones and everything worked like I wanted it to. But, I haven’t done a deep dive and spent ages with it yet - I will be doing though because I’m going to do a video with it soon. I got a really nice kind of, transparent drive with it like a Kotzen/Gilbert kind of vibe I really liked - can’t wait to dig into that more.
Same Dave! I always wanted to get one but never did. A software version would be a nice.
Nice walkthrough Jamie 🖖
Thank you! ✌️

Don’t miss out on the iOS code giveaway - Cubasis 3 + Nembrini Bass Driver.
I can only confirm, both mentioned apps (bass and mp1 pro) are sweet useful (on drums, piano, on all kind of sounds). Thanks for your @Jamie_Mallender opinion..
