software similar to SOMA Labs Cosmos hardware "looper"?
Is there any software with similar functionality to Cosmos. Really like it's unpredictable nature but would rather have it in software.
Comments
Just looked at the description of it on the Soma site, and it looks like a cross between Gauss and SpaceFields, with SpaceFields possibly closest. Won’t be identical, though.
Thanks! Will check into these. Appreciate response!
I had no idea how incredible Spacefields is! Trying really hard to comprehend how it works and it isn't easy. Trying to wrap my head around it but so far so good in terms of absolutely incredible results though. Beyond what I imagined.
I get the general principle, but TBH I just fiddle with it till I get something I like. In fact a lot of the time I can find a preset that does the job after trying a few. It’s remarkable, despite the interface - the dev acknowledges his interface design isn’t wonderful. The sounds are, though! Amazing app.
The great Leo @sfm has a tutorial series for SpaceFields:
I’ll check it out. Thanks!
This is what I'm watching too, thanks! The more I know about Spacefields, the more I appreciate what it can do. Makes me wonder about Beatcutter now. So deep and so well thought out! I've stopped wanting a Cosmos for the time being
Just based off the description for Cosmos, I keep coming back for his rack I made in Drambo

It’s great fun and does the “chaotic loop” thing quite well.
Spacefields is pretty incredible, and easy enough to get if you read the (built in) manual! 20 minutes of reading and you're good to go.
Great video demonstrating its use. It's like having a new, creative looper/delay app for free, especially suited for fragmented output in some experimental ambient setups, I suppose.
As for Spacefields I love it, but its #1 "problem" is that its output is kind of samey in character.
Thanks for this. Going to give it a go! Much appreciated.
Hm, I'm not finding this the case but maybe I just haven't spent enough time with it. Everything I've done seems remarkably unique so far. I set up a bunch of different samples and am feeding them in so the source audio is very different and I'm getting great transitions between them. I was just using Bitwig and now I see that there is a sample page to do this internally. So great!
I also think Spacefields is very flexible - it's really worth reading the manual and learning how to use it without relying on the presets. Most presets will sound good if you just want wacky, but if you want control you really need to learn how to dial it in. Unlike Beatcutter, the learning curve isn't too complex at all, the manual is relatively brief and straightforward.
I appreciate it. Yes, will definitely read through the manual for sure. Though I find, in a way, I like my music better when I don't know what I'm doing!
After having this experience, I'm really want to learn Beatcutter. Hoping I can find a good video tutorial on that!
Mine on Beatcutter is just OK... The documentation was terribly unclear and I was still struggling a bit with it at the time, despite having put a massive effort into getting to grips with it. It's still worth a watch I reckon, add in the Almost Aviation and Sound For More vids and you will fully understand it. Making it musical takes a lot more experimentation that can only be done hands-on, but is lots of fun once you have the general gist.
So much appreciate this! I will check all them out.
Fieldscaper is really good for this but a challenge to learn. Nice presets though.
I've spent some hours with Spacefields and though I really appreciate it and admire it greatly, I can't help but feel that the inner workings could be communicated to the user in a much more simple and visual (for me at least) way. So frustrating to find something so powerful and truly so well designed that is so unintuitive and cryptically presented. It's a shame cause it just means less people will benefit from it's greatness. I'll stick with it though cause I love it so much. I'll probably have a lot of re-learning if I wait too long between uses. I think I pretty much get it now thanks for SoundForMore! Without those tutorials, I doubt I'd ever be able to understand it on any useful level. Grateful to Leo!
Indeed, last time I picked up Spacefields after a long break I had to start with some Leo recaps first:) Thank you @sfm.
You are welcome
And on last vid of Beatcutter tutorial and I thank you for that. Beatcutter is slightly easier to understand for me than Spacefields. Thank you @sfm for the Beatcutter enlightenment as well. Going to try Fieldscaper next!
Your tutorials are concise and perfectly explained. I don't know how you do it so well. I guess you have a very clear mind! There is definitely no way I could've learned this by just reading the manual
