Drambo and Modular

I finally got all my gear wired up for midi control from my iPad. Right now, I have Drambo controlling the Neutron via USB, the 0Coast via MIDI DIN, the Strega via the 0Coast's MIDI to CV conversion, and the STO via the Behringer CM1A. I'm also using the MOTU M4 DC coupled outputs to send CV to the rig from the iPad, as well. I'm really liking the flexibility and creativity of the modular and iOS. It gives me the best of both worlds.

Getting all that stuff wired up and working is a huge accomplishment from my perspective. Also that cardboard seems like a good way to keep your cat from crawling into the synth.

  • Damn... that looks like fun! It reminds me of the first time I saw Keith Emerson. Great stuff... make more!

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr

No cats! Haha. Mad allergic. Glad you dig the tunes!

@Paulieworld thanks! I plan on diving deeper in this mamajama.

  • Most of the videos of Modular I’ve seen have lots of knob twiddling for not a lot of effect… this was minimal twiddle for some lovely music! Nice one 👍

Agreed. I guess that the challenge to make great sounds with a modular system is highly underestimated, boosted by the fact that only few people are willing to spend a lot of time to learn and understand the depths of sound synthesis.
Playing and experimenting with a modular system can be a lot of fun but if the result is worth sharing is another question 😉

I just got into individual modules. I’ve been producing and such for 22 years, and only got into modular in any way when the 0Coast came out. I’ve stuck with that since then until now. It’s given me a better idea of what I want, as well as a much better overall understanding of synthesis in general. My goal is to basically make a small and flexible instrument - basically my own “semi-modular” filling in the spaces of the things I love about the Make Noise trinity.

It also doesn’t hurt that a good buddy of mine has enough modular to buy an island for me to experiment with first.

Glad you dig it! I have a lot more up on my channel

  • Realizing I could use the iPad as the hub of my music gear was a real game changer for me. I plug all my USB MIDI stuff and a four channel audio interface into the iPad using a powered hub. AUM allows MIDI to be routed easily and with very little latency. It’s rare to have to physically change MIDI cables around with this setup. I have a couple of MIDI to CV converters in the rack and my Arturia stuff has CV out as well. AUM mixes and records audio from the modular, external synths and iOS apps.

So much sonic potential - Still working on the skills to actually make decent music tho…
