Ambient-friendly synths (and other apps) for iPhone

A number of my favourite synths aren't available for my iPhone. Whilst I use and love them on iPad, I need a tiny ambient toolkit on my iPhone.

What are your top tips?

Depends on what synths from iPad you're looking to try and replicate and in what host and whether it's live producing or loading a synth and automating.

  • A good long reverb can turn anything into ambient state :)

  • Yeah... totally depends on what you want to replicate.
But I have a suggestion right now... Lagrange is on sale now and is amazingly powerful and versatile
    https://apps.apple.com/app/lagrange-auv3-plugin-synth/id1479000758

  • Mononoke (did I spell it right?)

Yes any of the granular synths

SpaceFields with other sound sources thru AUM (don’t even need a synth just record some random stuff, hum into it, fart into it, whatever - it will come out the other end as magic)

Definitely a delay/reverb/etc (is Fluss on phone or just iPad?) Edit - yes Fluss is iPhone compatible

    Gauss audio looper

    BLEASS Granulator

Someone has to say Drambo, so Drambo

    Rymdigare

    DubStation2

I don’t do much on my iPhone but I will cook up some random ambient/drone/minimal whatever here and there when I have some appointment or time to kill waiting in the car.

Koala/Hammerhead/BLEASS Sidekick etc for some beats.

  • … and with Hainbach’s Wires just released, you could Hainbach Gauss looper into Hainbach Fluss then into Hainbach Wires. All on your phone then play with it later on the tablet.

    The triple play.

  • See if you can find the SourcecodeX presets for Sunrizer, a number of great pads in there. Mentioned here: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/41963/ambient-pads-synth/p2

  • PaulXStretch has also been a blast

    just don’t follow through :D

  • Lots of good stuff mentioned above.

Also available on iPhone are the UA plugins, and Bram Bos’s other apps eg Ripplemaker and Kosmonaut.

MiRack also works on phones, but the interface on a tiny screen would be a PITA. That said, if you have set up useful effects chains/processors etc on your iPad, being able to load them into projects on the iPhone is handy.

Lastly, Retro Piano is also available on iPhone.

  • Teraverse is quite nice.

  • Oh yeah... Absolutely get PaulXStretch
    It's free

  • SynthScaper LE
    Teraverse

  • Velvet machine
    Mononoke

  • Mitosynth
    Teraverse
    SynthScaper
    LaGrange
    TC-11

Add FAC’s Alteza and you’ve got ambient.

  • What would be a good iPhone capable delay. With reverse.

Also, is there anything like Other Desert Cities on iPhone?

I have and love k7D, and did have some others, like many of the great apps listed here, I don't have them on my phone, hence looking for reminders where to find everything I need, following a year's hiatus due to medical issues.

  • Found my other missing delays. YaleD, and Woodulator. 😊

  • I'm so glad to find Mitosynth again for iPhone. I thought it was iPad only. I have and love Spider's presets for it on iPad.

Woodulator does reverse delay, pitch shifting, and has its own BBD-inspired character:

When ODC came out I thought it would replace Woodulator for me, but the (acknowledged) bugs have put me off of it

  • I can't find my presets for Mitosynth. Can anyone point me to where I can find Spider's presets for It?

They're installed on my iPad. But I've scoured my Dropbox and can't find them.

Woodulator has reverse delay AND is universal?! I learned something new today. :)

  • Yay. Found them on the forum.

    Any others?

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • ID700 is amazing for slow texture ambient stuff. It’s the iOS version of a Buchla 700.

  • Tardigrain, model 15, frms, Ripplemaker, synthscaper, FieldScaper, iDensity + Stria etc, spacecraft, addstation, spectrum synth, drc, synth one, audio layer... a few more...
Still running on iOS 12 iPhone 6!
I have mitosynth... I’ll look for the zip...
    brb

That's not showing on my iPhone. Only iPad.
