Dropbox issues and file management on iPadOS and iOS

I'm having issues with accessing DropBox files and folders in Files and SampleCrate apps on my iPad. It had been working fine until last weekend. Then suddenly, I dropped back into files to pull over something else from DropBox to On My iPad, and when I click on DropBox in Files app, the screen doesn't change. It just stays on whatever the last location was. Until I click one of the other file sources in the sidebar.

A day or two later, it began working again, for a few days, and then today, it has stopped working again. DropBox itself is working just fine on all platforms for me in standalone.

This evening, I was trying the same, only within Sample Crate, and it shows the same fault.

I imported sample files from my DropBox into Koala no problem, via AudioShare. When I go into AudioShare to import files from DropBox, I have no issue accessing them.

This is causing me some major issues in setting up my iPad at the moment, so I would appreciate any help with this, please.

I would also appreciate any tips on file management between Mac, iPad and iPhone, especially samples and loops.

Specs:
iPadOS 16.2
iPad Air 4.
DropBox Plus.

  • When you access DropBox from the Files app sidebar (or any app that uses the "Files" interface), you're actually using a FileProvider Extension that's part of the DropBox app. It might help to log out of DropBox (using the app), then log back in. Or maybe delete and reinstall the app.

Alternatively, you might be able to access files using the DropBox app, and share them to another app, maybe even the Files app.

Some apps, like File Explorer Pro and GoodReader, use SDKs from the Cloud providers to access those services in their own way. You can tell you're using one of them when you don't see the "Files" interface when accessing files. I'm not sure if any of your apps are in this category.

Thanks. I rebooted my iPad, and it resolved the issue, at least for now. Meanwhile, I came across FE File Explorer Pro in another thread, and I have Readdle Docs which seem like a good alternative to access all files.

Yes. I actually use Box, but I almost never use the Box app. I access my files using File Explorer or GoodReader, and have never had problems with access. Also, these apps don't maintain hidden caches of "recently used" files that can affect Storage usage. When you download a file, the local copy is held in their directory trees, when you can keep or delete it as desired.
