A reluctant +1 for Other Desert Cities. So many interesting possibilities

    Why reluctant?

Because audio damage apps often tend to be buggy and they are slow, very slow, to get round to fixing them, and have shown some lack of respect towards ios as a platform in tweets etc

Ah I see. Yeah that won’t do :/

  • If you love freedom than Drambo is an excellent effect builder and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist either with some templates already on patchstorage.com/Drambo

I’ve just made a quick demo

  • ☝️☝️☝️
I threw this vid together very quickly but hopefully it gives you an idea. Once you get the basic concepts Drambo is very quick and easy to work with unlike full modular systems. I’ve tried MiRack a couple of times but it’s soooo slow to work with. In Drambo you can build a fairly cool sounding patch in minutes due to cables auto connecting. Also the module browser is far superior.

Ever since getting Drambo I let go of Effectrix and most of instances Turnado which I’ve been using for many years now.

Interesting to see so much love for Rymdigare - was under the impression the same results could be achieved using couple of other apps, no?

That’s true of most complex fx apps. Rymdigare has its own vibe.

Thanks man, that does sound good.
Feels increasingly futile resisting Drambo, it pops up in just about every thread :o

    Yep fair comment

Fieldscaper for sure though it is one I never really took the time to learn. If it was auv3 and if the manual was clearer, I would have

Yet another app that I would love to see in AUv3.

Agreed, AUv3 treatment for Fieldscaper would be a godsend

    Gauss, definitely.

Replicant is great, especially for drums. Sector is like Replicant * 1000.

  • I like all the suggestions made by everyone.
Everyone except McD. Those were too weird for me. 😅

I will add the free apps from Neon Silicon. Definitely some strange ones, but a couple of normal EQs too.
Here is the link to one of them. From there you can find the others.

I see you have Fieldscaper. I do too. I suggest using the presets. They are really good, and it is way painful to try to figure out the app.

  • From memory, some of the Spectrum modules open as audio fx at least, but forget their names. Maybe search by dev name. > @McD said:

In a DAW you can configure Drambo as an FX or MIDI FX app. When you do it cannot load AUv3s but all those internal modules are available for audio or midi processing but a 3rd instance can be loaded into an instrument slot. It cal also work as a standalone DAW.

Koala and Loopy Pro also can be implemented in all 3 DAW functionality slots or as a standalone DAW. I expected Spectrum to appear in all 3 lists but I only see it in the instrument position.

There might be more of these “functionality bundle” apps.

I love Spectrum. I've had some lovely results with it. One of my fave apps.

The dev is Thomas Burns / Burns Audio.

    Cheers all. Of those mentioned I already have a few;

Spacefields & Bleass Granulizer - bought recently but not delved into either yet
    Fieldscaper
    Turnado
    Velvet Machine
    (Love em all)

Interesting to see so much love for Rymdigare - was under the impression the same results could be achieved using couple of other apps, no?

Some fascinating suggestions so far, will defo follow up on them

Would anyone consider Gauss or any of the icegear FX apps (esp Kajita - intrigues me) interesting category?

Definitely - Gauss is very powerful when you add in the sequencer, loop decay etc. I also love ice gear stuff though, as others have pointed out, their filters are sometimes not the

Agree….no variety and not well sounding. I guess they learned a bit until nambu. I think they are ok, but I just get into the Sounddesign.

It’s the resonator one that uses MI Rings software. I’ve never been able to get anything good that way, but there are some beautiful Rings demos on YouTube so it’s clearly possible.

It's like the next level effect processor because you can build almost anything on your own. And after a learning phase, it's not too difficult to do that.

But it's not a plug-and-play app, at least you need to find your favorite effect patches on patchstorage and load them.
You get rewarded with a rather unique advantage: If there's anything you don't like in the effect or something you're missing, chances are that either you or someone helpful from the forums will be able to "fix" it.

  • drambo punch in fx seem fun

  • Don’t forget Matthew Caldwell and his weird and free trio of Nebulizer, Frobulator, and Muckraker.

    Frekvens.

Why simply "effect" a sound when you can cheerfully wring its scrawny little neck?

  • Big, big fan of Koala FX inside Drambo. It’s so playable, very Octatracky.

Yesterday I mapped a Moog Matriarch’s mod wheel to Drambo’s crossfader, and used it to control various KFX “scenes” while playing.

Koala’s cutter and stutter are just amazing. And you can change the order of the FX. Stutter into Comb Filter ftw.
