BEATSURFING 2 and IAA/AUV3
Hey everyone, we have been working hard on adding in IAA and AUV3 for Beatsurfing 2.
While we are working on that, we need help understanding how people are using AUV3/IAA in their setup. We have our assumptions, but it is very valuable to hear others' real-world use cases. If you have any videos or examples of your music using AUV3/IAA we want to see them!
If you are interested to try the beta and test the IAA/AUV3 we would appreciate your help. Send us a message with your email and we can send you an invite to the beta group. Remember it's iPad only for the moment.
Thanks! - The Beatsurfing team.

My most common use case would be laying down loops in Loopy Pro or AUM, or a full drum track in Cubasis. I see myself using the internal beatsurfing sounds primarily, although I can see many people wanting to use it as a midi controller for other drum auv3’s. Based on what I see around the forum, I think the next biggest feature request after auv3 is implemented might be multi out support.
Same for me as @FriedTapeworm - loops in AUM & Loopy Pro. My favourite Beatsurfing sessions have been when I'm too tired to look at a screen - just close my eyes and let loose with all my digits (you don't want to see a video of that) - would be great to capture these in a session in either of the aforementioned hosts. So far I've been happy with the internal sounds, it's the playing surface that makes it for me (and the unexpected sounds and rhythms you can create).
Will message and volunteer for the beta.
EDIT: AUv3 would do it for me, can't think why I would need IAA if it had that? Although IAA would still be better than nothing for as long as it still works (though you'd probably get a lot of abuse here for doing that alone with no AUv3).
I use beatsurfing in similar ways to the guys above but I also use AUM as a mixer to perform things live that I record or do for an audience. I'll have multiple instruments and sequencera set up that I trigger or fade in/out. It would be great to have beatsurfing as an auv3 that I can incorporate into this.
IAA is deprecated and could break with some arbitrary apple whim. That said, many great apps rely on it for connectivity like Borderlands and Gadget. The main reason I see for IAA support on top of auv3 is for a truly full screen experience that can connect to other hosts. Or... If the auv3 is unstable 😉.
I messaged to join the beta. Love beatsurfing... Use it with my 5 year old and it's sick.
I sent a message re. beta.
I use AUv3 in apeMatrix (or AUM, etc) and like to save the whole setup in a preset that I can recall later.
For AUv3 use cases, I recommend looking at YouTube tutorials for Drum Computer and Drambo and Zenbeats (host), just to name a few sources of content.
The Sugar Bytes model for AUv3 is well thought out. They provide a standalone version (like Beatsurfing does) but don't do IAA (which is deprecated, right?). I don't know why you would spend resources on IAA - Loopy Pro doesn't even do IAA - but that's not really my concern except for worries about opportunity cost.
This is my use-case as well—live performance. Using Beatsurfing, as we who have used it all know, can be an extremely physical experience. A definite plus for a live audience, in contrast to common laptop performances which tend to become monotonous unless we viewers have an inkling of what’s going on. Personally, I have no interest in IAA. Using AUM and Loopy Pro exclusively as hosts, which is why I don’t really use Beatsurfing much except to noodle and have fun. Would start out with the self-contained sounds, so for me AUV3 is the only obstacle to consistent, serious (but still fun!) use.
I often just boot it up in the break room at work and pass the iPad around with no further explanation. Everyone digs it.
Would love to take part in the beta.
Thanks for checking in here. Audiobus forum is a gold mine (and sometimes a challenge, of course) for open-minded devs.
Loopy Pro does do IAA.
@zilld2017 As a plugin host, Loopy Pro supports IAA plugins.
I was referring to IAA client support, which is something that Loopy HD did, but Loopy Pro does not do.
Ah, thanks for clarifying.
Thanks everyone for reaching out and going into detail like that. The devs are having a look today, I just sent out testflight invites to everyone I got a message from. Back at ya soon If anyone wants to hop on the discord server here is a invite a well. https://discord.gg/EwXbdKRC
Hi! I use beatsurfing 2 sometimes. What I am missing is the option to use some of my favorite synths and sound generators with beatsurfing as a host. What I personally would really love is using beatsurfing in loopy pro or aum as a midi controller. So sending message to other apps. I would love to participatie in the open bèta if the offer is still open!
I installed the test flight version. Not able to restore the purchases using that. Anyone else had the same experience?
What SHOULD happen usually with test flight is that you would need to 'buy' the IAPs again, but when you 'buy' you will get some kind of message saying you won't be charged and it is just for testing purposes.
Confirmed.
I did not have the IAP. After selecting purchase, I got this message. So, no, you will not be charged for “re-purchasing” within the beta.
Thank you, wasn't aware of this.
Nice! Shoot me your email in message and I can add you to the beta.
Sorry I should have mentioned that. You can purchase in the testflight version and you wont be charged, you will see the itunes prompt says something like "you will not be charged for this purchase". My bad, and thanks @Gavinski
Any suggestions which thread I should be using with questions about using the app? (Like, how do you disconnect action-linked layers.) This one is mostly about the beta process.
Just shoot us a message on [email protected] or message us on insta/fb and we will get back to you. You can also hop on the discord as well.

Cool. Thanks.
Erik, if you’re still monitoring this thread… I have never been able to load BS2 in Logic Pro. It only appears in the midi instruments drop down with the following message.
There are no other instances running.
