Micro cassette not going to sound very close to VHS, but will have an aesthetic all its own. In a way I envy your minimalism. I have somewhere between 3 and 5 old VCRs lying around and a box of old VHS tapes that I still can't put my fingers on. Not sure where I put them, but I know they're here somewhere. LOL
I'm intrigued, what are impulse responses?
You load the impulse responses into a convolution reverb, and they facsimilate the acoustic properties of an audio source or setting. You'd have to use those IRs with another lo-fi'er to get wow, tape dropout, etc.
Ah, okay, thanks, I think I understand. I did go off and look into IRs in Ableton.
Ours are still stored in our garage. My wife won't let me get rid of them. 🤷🏼♂️🙄
Funny coincidence. Last night my son bought a small cabinet/end-table at a second-hand store. When he opened it at home, he found about a dozen old vinyls from the 50's - 60's in good shape inside. Those things probably sat around in there for 50 years until someone's parents died and their kids took that piece of furniture to the second-hand store.
I do volunteer work at a charity shop and some of the stuff that comes in is amazing. Like you say, the grandparents die and the adult kids bring in what they don't want to keep. We had a 1st (Australian) pressing of The Beatles "Please Please Me" LP on the old black and gold Parlophone label come in a while ago.
Did anyone mention

Nice, I've been looking at this, but it's a little above my current budget. I see it's also on rent to buy, but still… I wish.
Very nice indeed. I was exploring it last night.
Another IR: https://encoderaudio.sellfy.store/p/bxl1/
“ From version 1.1o, we've included new IRs and samples from VHS tapes!”
All you need is an impulse response app to load these, like Altispace 2.

Thanks. I picked up the preset.
I can dream of so many pedals. Actually, just two so far.
Does it give you the sound you’re after?
Time will tell…
Thanks for the tip-off though. I'll be working with this in the coming weeks.
You got the IR pack from Encoder or the Satin presets? I've been curious about that Cassette IR library but not yet enough to buy it. Seems like a good deal for 1000 IRs though.
Freesound also a place to find various samples that you might layer in. https://freesound.org/search/?q=VHS+VCR
The presets for Satin were a good find @Slush
