Indeed. That's why (personally) I'm more than happy to work around the limitations of iOS music production if it means I don't have to sit at a computer to mix my tracks
A guitar, an interface, a microphone, and an iPad with a handful of apps is the equivalent of a fully equipped studio from 30 years ago.
Good. But all those loving shots of his studio gear kind of undermine his point!
it's relative ... for somebody he has not that much gear .. this is always relative .. point is to reduce your tools to minimal set of things you REALLY use .. For me it's Syntakt, Digitakt, Digitone and Virus TI - for somebody it's too much gear .. Also often for one particular jam/track i don't use all of the simultaneously but pick just one or two instead and deal with their limitations .. Just because you have 10 pieces of gear doesn't mean you use it always all simultaneously ..
There are people with hundreds of apps installed on iPad - synths, fxs, daws - and they still just complains about missing features in discussions. I will not name but even here some people literally first reaction on any app is complaining about missing features even before app is released (but never heard any really finished music from them ))
During most of my era of iPad only production, i had on my iPhone/iPad just NS2 and less than 10 AU plugins And i made plethora of music with it.
I feel a bit of salt here ... Don't hink his room is "millionaire" type and also he does music proffesionaly (he does all kinds of soundrack/score/advertiseme music and stuff like that) so those are his work tools.
Yeah one of main reasons why I in 2010 abandoned computer based production and moved fully on iOS-only production mode .. no plans to ever return to "big" daws on desktop ..
I love the fact he isn't about fueling GAS in this video. This is very much an "anti-GAS" video. Facts and wisdom all in this video. I do love Venus Theory's channel.
What's ironic is when I had GAS for the OP-1F late last Spring, in reality I was searching for a Minimalist set-up on my Mini as I felt that "option fatigue" within iOS/iPadOS. When I started producing live Ambient, I started off learning how to do so in Koala first before moving onto and eventually settling on AUM. The same for learning Lofi - I started off in Koala first, tried NS2 and started to feel option fatigue, moved to FLSM for a bit, then returned to NS2. 😂
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that this man’s voice is awesome? Born to broadcast.
+1
it just the latest trend for hits on youtube, it's the 'don't buy gear' angle. all the youtube music gear influencers are doing it for the views at the moment. Next episode will be 'buy this bit of gear ASAP'.
How ironic. I joined the forum at the beginning of the year and my very first post was about a minimalist approach. And now I see this video, and the guy even has the midi controller I am currently using and mentioned in my post!
