Plugin to receive audio from DLNA/UPnP server ?
I want to use audio streams from a local DLNA/UPnP media server (Fritzbox) in AUM and AudioBus. VLC is a great player for that purpose, but it has no IAA support. Ideal would be an AU plugin that is as easy as VLC (server discovery, media browsing).

I wanted to test this with RadioUnit, to see if I could figure out DLNA/UPnP urls.
How the hell do you get iOS VLC player to work with either? I like VLC on iOS, but making it work with DLNA or UPnP is beyond my skillset.
Any UPnP/DLNA servers on the same network as the iPad should show automatically in the 'Network' tab under 'File Servers' in VLC - selecting one will display the media content being shared...
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be possible to use a 'simple' URL to access media from a DLNA/UPnP server - it's designed to work as a server and client so I think someone would need to develop a specific AU client plugin...any devs out there willing to take this on?
DLNA/UPnP servers don’t show up for me. They do on VLC on the Mac, but not on iOS.
Or even better: An AUv3 or Audiobus compatible or at least IAA enabled version of VLC.
I had the same problem with the Fritzbox. It was the server name “AVM!Fritzbox” containing a special character. The moment I changed the name to a pure alpha numeric one, it showed up.
Also, make sure the server is running before you load VLC on the iPad.
Thanks for the advice. Good to know that VLC can work. I've no need for a DLNA/UPnP server at this time, and was only going through the effort testing to satisfy my curiosity as to whether or not some sort of URL could be crafted to go to a particular resource on a DLNA server. I still have my suspicion that there is, but it doesn't matter because that's not what the OP is after.
Good luck trying to find a solution though. As VLC is open source, it might be possible that someone could make a version with an IAA extension, or incorporate the Audiobus SDK, or even go the full AUv3 route. I sort of doubt that'll happen though. 🤷🏼♂️
Not a DLNA/UPnP solution, but at least a workaround for mediaservers with a web interface:
The Web Audio Player from Blue Mangoo works with the FritzBox web interface.
The only thing I miss in this plug-in is that playback cannot be started or stopped with the transport or via MIDI control.
This would also work with a software based media server like Plex, which has a web interface.
