The next best Synth

Going through synths and keeping winners to study. Loads are relegated.

I guess its generally Nambu ( made a good patch ) ID700 ( but also Phospher 3 )

Factory.

Maybe Aparillo but because it has good presets.

Ripplemaker.

Either Monolit or Poison 202 ( Poison is poly ) but both good UI.

And maybe a best choice for analogue ( like model D etc )

Then the wavetable synth in Drambo.

I guess thats it. Maybe still too many synths.

Maybe Bleass Megalit is better than Drambo wavetable but probably not because Drambo is modules.

What synth are you recommending?

If you can be bothered with another synth thread.

Obviously synths are best that seem un-cluttered.

  • Probably dont need another synth.

Would check out Icegear or Bleass though ( maybe )

But it would mainly be for UI.

  • You are on track with Bleass, they really focus on making great user experiences - creating user interfaces that are simple and sensible.

    Cheers Mike.

Will decide if I need Omega if Im liking Nambu.

    Megalit if Im using Drambo.

    Samplewiz is actually good though.

  • Probably Tera Pro is one of the most powerful (if "powerful" has anything to be related to the "best"...).
It depends on what you would qualify "best", but if you look for big and epic sound textures, Virsyn synths are quite good.
Nambu is also excellent, one of the best in its own category.

  • I'd add OB-Xd to the list of potential candidates.

  • New pro presets packswpuld beata new synth for me

  • Cheers.

    Got OB and Terra.

Think OB might be nicer than modal D.

If the same type of synth ( obviously )

    Whats your nicest synth?

    Might be from my list.

  • Think I've got enough synth apps now. For me it's about using them to their fullest potential. My next buys are going to be effects.

Megalit is not better than Drambo wavetable. While I like Megalit, I created my own wt synth in Drambo that's much more powerful and it's possible to use my own wavetables.

Tera Synth Pro and Nambu are both excellent. And OBxd always sounds good.

    Which effects.

    Were maybe buying ODC.

    Maybe flux pro.

    Cheers. These synths are good.

Just from a patch I made.

    Nambu seems most exciting.

  • Probably Choric and Other Desert Cities.

  • I wonder about iSEM, it’s hardly ever mentioned here, but judging from Dougs @thesoundtestroom YouTubes it does sound very-very good and really analog. And it does seem to have some interesting modulation options as well..

  • Depends, I like to have at least one for every type of synthesis.

I don’t have that one, but I think the reason iSem and a few others aren’t mentioned as much is because they haven’t been updated in a long time. Everyone has always spoken highly of these, but I think there’s some uncertainty on their future, certainly no updates in awhile.

    All Arturia Apps
    iSEM - 3 years
    Arturia iSpark - 4 years
    iMini - 5 years
    iProphet - 2 years

I see.. kind of the same as with Nave.

Zeeon and iSEM are both excellent, but they almost never get updated.

    definetly excellent as you say!

personally my view is that they are extraordinary in that that havent needed updates. I know in the case of Zeeon, Beeptreet is on his stuff as needed, he just updated iSequence for example, an app that first appeared in 2010 (updated import export)

Ice Gear and Virsyn were mentioned above, they make types that are significantly alternative. I see them as indispensable...

    Mersenne
    Laplace
    Kronecker
(the main feature with these 3 are their resonator features)

    microTera
(my favorite monster, low cpu load, can make truly end-of world sounds, nothing like Tera or Tera Pro, cant be reproduced in the Tera's. A variation i suppose on phase mod but...a wild variation.)
    Cube synth pro
(Virsyn can be very cpu intensive in my experience, Cube Pro is one of these as is I think Tera Pro. Both are worth the trouble, Unlike Tera Pro, Cube Pro is a thing unto itself rather than bread and butter)

  • Any love for LayR?

Zeeon banks are super nice, I would love trooper bank also, Animoog Z I don't use it very often but maybe someone could make a really usable bank.

And Nambu yes, the posibilities are endless there.

In general I prefer usable sounds.

Usable banks for there synths would be better for me than new iOS synths

    Got Animoog Z and Nambu.

    Cant promise to make banks.

    Just got back into ios

but if theres ever to be an exclusive bank.

    Maybe its yours.

  • The next best synth is always the one I make in (insert name here).

I still have my favourites but the sheer satisfaction of making your own is so much fun.

Here's one of my most recent forays using a midi controller.

I'm now putting together some drum synthesis patches and
sending the oscillators out through my compression+distortion pedals.

Dont have a clue how it works though.

I sort of know what I'm doing but it's a lot to describe.
Basically with each step I can adjust the pitch, cutoff freq,
resonance amount, hard sync, envelope to pitch amount and gate length.
This one took a bit of doing as I had to learn how to use the buttons differently
and there were 92 buttons to map so I'm taking a moment of creative R&R
    before I complete it.
I've got to get the lights happening and I may get the scribble strips going as well.

    lol.

    😁

    Nice mate.

    The Wizard.

    Cheers for the filter.

Its better than the Jaf filter.

I LOVE layR… it’s still hanging on in page one of my ‘Favorite Synths’ folder :) But I agree, at a certain point you have to stop adding to the list and really learn how to use what you’ve got: there are so many amazing iOS synths.

  • Rarely mentioned and imo under rated (or maybe just forgotten) is TB Flowtones. It sounds amazing, has really good fx built in and a dynamic EQ.
