Magma : sound as matter by K-Devices - Released

https://apps.apple.com/dk/app/magma-sound-as-matter/id6444836522?l=da

Description:

Magma is an audio processor that grabs incoming audio and twists its presence throughout time, blends it with its past self, unravels its most recondite shades and controls its weight in space, creating everything in between dark drones, shimmery textures and weird percussive timbres.

At the very crossroad between a micro-looper, a granular engine, a sustainer, and a sound warmer, Magma can squash your sounds with reverb-like, big shaking auras, or sprinkle air and make your lines ethereal.
Simply load Magma on your track and give your sounds a new identity.

Magma is a sound processor with its very own character. Magic when paired with acoustic sounds, it can transfigure all kind of sources in unexpected ways: it will react differently, according to the input you feed it with. It can either magnify or disintegrate.
Magma can be molten lead, screaming metal, frozen wind.
You will handle Magma with care, paying attention on how each parameter acts, according to different contexts. Magma will carry your sound around unexplored territories.

HOW IT WORKS
Magma continuously records the incoming signal in a short buffer, it then plays back the content by blending different moments in time, creating a texture.
User can set the density and the persistence of the texture, that can sound as a reverb, an infinite sustain, or a sort of spectral shadow.
Several parameters let user sculpt the texture: an EQ section, a Temperature knob (a specifically designed distortion adds a noise-based amplitude modulation on higher values), and a Mid/Side knob to handle its weight in space.

GO RAW OR KEEP IT SMOOTH /// The RAW switch disables an envelope follower applied to the input by default. Set it ON for a sharpen sound, or OFF for a smooth texture.
MEMORIES AND FROZEN TIME /// Choose how much persitent memories should be, and let Magma blend past with present; enable the freeze toggle for an organic infinite sustain.
SPEED /// Set the playback speed of memories to harmonize the present with perfect and odd intervals.
SCULPT /// Use the intuitive EQ section to boost/cut hi and low frequencies and get the perfect timbre for your texture.
WEIGHT /// We included a classic Mid/Side operator; you’ll love how it can sculpt the texture, giving weight or adding air to it!
IN-GUI INFOS /// Enable Infos toggle to get all parameters details always in sight; just hover on a parameter.
2 FLAVOURS /// Dark and light skin.

*** Please note: Magma is an Audio Unit extension (AUv3) – it only works in an AUv3 host app like AUM, Drambo, Cubasis, etc... ***

  • At last! 😃 I can't believe it's only $2.99 intro price, and even at full price will still be less than 10 quid.

  • Grabbed it. Super fun.

  • Awesome I love this dev. Just played through the presets so far, really nice 👍

  • I forget the presets and got lost playing the house mark v through it. Real harsh at first, no surprise due to the overtones of a rhodes, but after dialing it in, it sounds like a choir of angels.

I’m supposed to be watching Drambo tutorials. I’m deleting this.

  • Instabuy on k devices, especially at this price!

  • The mid/side knob is pure gold

  • Incredible release. This is magic sauce territory- I love k devices and with this idea and the final plugin the outdone themselves. It’s flipping great! 😍

  • Ok folks, what am I missing ?
This sounds horrible. Every preset sounds the same….kinda like I’ve suddenly been dropped in the middle of a brutal sandstorm. …

  • Managed to get something kinda sweet from the init patch when I open it but none of the presets sound good to my ears. Guess I’ll just keep tweakin’…..

It's good even on Sandstorm by Darude. Give it a try 😶

  • K devices presets are often pretty unusable to be honest. Just dial things in yourself! It can definitely sound nice, you need to experiment with it to understand it, like all their apps. This one is very easy to get actually. I like it!

Yeah , getting some good stuff now, with subtle tweaks. Gonna leave the presets aside :)

    Rymdigare?

Pretty different from rymdigare. If you like experimental things it's worth grabbing imo

  • Oooo man this one is good. Between this and Bubbles, it’s a good time if you’re into the experimental side of things.

  • Turn on help—bottom-right question mark—then long press on each parameter for a description of it. Haven’t uncovered anything similar on other K Devices.

    Rymdigare?

Much more limited in capabilities than Rymdigare, no internal modulation and I couldn't make much out of it (I'm doing ambient - soft sounds). Maybe if you're versed in the distortion side of it, you'll find it more interesting than me.

  • Here are 2 testing I did with Magma, a more Ambient test (which suits the app's niche better imo) and a short dirty House jam.

  • The above video is now a Giveaway, btw.
Here's another one minute demonstration I did

A buddy of mine says a good rule of thumb seems to be if the best thing about an app is the presets , you made a bad purchase

Not quite sure I’d agree but can’t say I’d disagree either lol
