Sound art project releases free album including polar field recordings

edited February 2023 in Other

A fascinating art sound project designed to draw attention to the effect of the climate crisis on the poles has released an album of compositions made using hydrophone recordings of ice, sea creatures and so on. The free album also includes the original source recordings for your own sonic adventures:

Check out the raw sound of ‘singing sea ice’ - fully sounds like some avant garde electro acoustic piece.

Wonderful offering for a terrible cause. Thank you for sharing, and spreading the word.

Purchased, and downloaded, I'm now reading about the project, its creator, and the cause.

Cities and Memories have a great collection of field and found sound based music and original recordings on their bandcamp page: https://citiesandmemory.bandcamp.com/

While you can download them for free, the causes they often publicise (like the most recent polar sounds project) are well worth supporting if you can...

  • Good for chill out music.

    I’ll get my coat…

  • Is there a hack btw for downloading from bandcamp to your iPad directly? I no longer use a computer. Yes I can download to my android phone then send it to myself but it’s a bit of a pain in the arse!

  • Been involved in a few of these projects... reprocessing and reimagining field recordings ...
Missed the deadline on this one.
    :)
    Great fun!

  • @Gavinski : I just download to the BandCamp app on the Apple store:

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/bandcamp/id706408639

If/when I want the noises, I’ll either run the audio from the headphone socket, or do what I usually do, which is screen record it and extract from the resulting vid.

  • Was more hoping for a workaround that would actually let you download, but cheers anyway!

I just pasted the link into safari on the iPad and it readied the link for download, tapped it, it came, unpacked in files app…

  • Ah, nice, I was using chrome which didn't work. Wonder if the desktop version would have worked. Will check later, cheers Chris!
