  • Damn that's cheap af. Even with the weak yen I might've copped that. Too bad I'm on a GAS break lol.

    Living in Japan ?

  • Hmm. In the UK you can get the Behringer TD3 for £88. Does the Donner B1 at £99 offer anything over that?

Nice place, I am living there too !

  • It's a nice looking thing, and at that price I was kinda tempted, but I looked at the reviews on the Donner website and something seems a bit fishy.

What do you mean? Botty McBotface and Mr. Generic Name may have exactly the same thing to say, nothing weird about describing it with exactly the same words. Don't be so suspicious, if they wanted to inflate their ratings with fake review they would've given it 5/5, not just 4.

  • Donner don't make balloons, do they?

  • There’s only 26 words in the alphabet, so…

I bought two TD-3’s for $70 & $80 AUD each. Less than the price of one discounted B1.

I’m not sure you can adjust the VCF with a trimmer on the B1 like you can on the TD-3 either. Very important for getting it to sound like a real 303.

  • The TD3 is awesome. I regret selling mine and will probably get one again

I am living in Kyoto and more on the 6 strings of the spectrum. But from what I know, if you're in Tokyo, Five G music technology, Echigoya music are good places to start with, but you probably know already. Big names like Ishibashi music and Ikebe Gakki Kenbando have huge selections of synths as well.
Have you tried all those recycle shops like Hard Off ? They're all over Japan. Pretty much hit or miss, but they always have some musical instruments and I happened to see very cheap synths like Yamaha dx7. Worth a try.
If you're into 2nd hand and vintage gear and comfortable with Japanese language, some incredible deals can be made on auction sites like Yahoo! or Mercari. It seems young Japanese are mostly buying guitars lately, there is low demand for vintage synths, and with the low yen, there are lots of opportunities on the second hand market especially for all Japanese brands (Roland Korg etc...)
    Hope it helps.

This, that trimmer is essential ...
