Emvoice is around £50 for a good entry voice, Lucy. That's a one off cost compared to a sub. But as with all cloud options, if the company goes bust, then you lose the ability to use the app , unlike a standard VST/AUV3 synth you've purchased.
I really need emvoice on IOS though The desktop version is superb - tends to be stable and you can also do a basic mix with your IOS synths tracks via an exported WAV.
@matdun25848834 yes! emvoice is pretty great! i just love how this is on mobile, i exported a midi guide melody from ableton to my phone, then went for a hike and plugged in lyrics while sitting in a tree. love being able to work on the go.
Yes agree, I’m definitely going to give it a go. Being able to import some midi (I’m creating some songs with piano motifs at the moment), write and hear some lyrics, then export back out ( as an audio guide - can remaster them in emvoice if required), on the go/IPad sounds good. Let me know how you get on.
I have tried to use Pocket Singer more in depth today and it is finally interesting. Powerful but not too difficult to use. I like it so far. It is however crashing all the time and I did not succeed in exporting the final song (crash). It is cool that you can manage several voices and make them sing together. I will keep it for a while but it has to be updated as it is too unstable (but I haven’t loose anything thanks to the auto-recording)
Here is my first track using this app. As you can hear, the prononciation is not always accurate but I think the global rendering is not so bad for such a (relatively) cheap app. This is a special song I have created in memory of Burt Bacharach who was a model for me. The lyrics are the following :
The world was silent on the day
That Bacharach's music went away
No more melodies to fill our hearts
As his legacy now falls apart
Bacharach, oh Bacharach
A genius taken from our grasp
As the notes of his last song fade
We mourn the loss of this great shade
His symphonies were like no other
As they flowed from his very soul
But now the music will be hushed
As his final song takes its toll
This app seems not ready for prime time imo. Promising, but not convincing enough, it clearly needs a system for user input to fix mistakes in its pronunciation.
Catchy melody though! And definitely the cheap weekly subscription model makes it something ppl can just dip into from time to time as needed. The tech is not quite there yet tho
Just like vocaloid the simplest solution is to type nonsense lyrics that sound right
Enjoyed the track, overall. The vocal part of it definitely shows promise (In some sections it sounds really good). In other parts, the phrasing really throws it off course.
I had to cancel my demo due to constant crashing, so didn't get into deep construction. But I assume that it's not so much about getting it to pronounce real words, but more about using whatever letter combinations it takes to create a convincing word/phrase. That being the case, it might just need a lot more teasing and use of even more strange combinations to capture a better pronunciation
That's a good point, probably writing Bacharach as Bakarak would be a start
Yes to be honest I haven’t really tried to make “adjustments” and I didn’t spend more than 10 minutes on Pocket Singer. This is a really rough rendering. I have noticed that he pronounce “Ba” like “La”…not very easy to pronounce Burt Bacharach
...or even Back-car-rack
Yeah...Like i said, it really does work well in many places. So if you spent such a little amount of time to get those results that's definitely a positive. The rest seems like it will take a bit of massaging, trial-and-error etc. to get right. Hopefully bug and stability fixes with be forthcoming so we can all dive in
the track above from @cuscolima shows promise, very different sound from emvoice. Were you bringing in the midi lead, then using that to create the vocals ? - as it's moves very much like a lead melody.
I tried this with emvoice when I first started using it (because I thought it was the logical way to get vocal following the song), but it gave some very odd rhythm and stretching/shortening of words - so when I do an emvoice vocal over a backing instrumental, I start from scratch and just build up a new vocal lead.
if the stability was there, I would be tempted to give it ago.
Yes, I have just uploaded a lead midi track that I have created then I have copy-past the lyrics (all the lyrics on the first note - the app made the split automatically). Then it is a work of fine tuning (that I haven't done here)
so can you do baritone and bass voices on here?. so far everything i’ve seen are high pitched voices.
Lowest notes sounds like in the range E1 -> E4
Version 1.1.0 is out:
More stable now. Still some troubles when importing midi files with several tracks but I can live with that. The export wav function is ok now.
From subscription to completely free. Weird. Maybe realised the amount of work needed(?)
Is there a way to delete a project?
Yes. But I deleted the app, so I forget how. But can be done. I know. I’ve deleted many.
The app’s so unintuitive. Or buggy, not sure which?
Say I want it to sing “Universe” over 3 notes: I set 3 notes, to “uu”, “nee”, “verss”
No matter what I do it sings “uu”, “nee”, “laa”
Deleted.
Yep, this was a pretty hard pass for me.
To anyone who has ever tried vocaloid it’s pretty familiar. Enter notes on piano roll then assign text to the notes..
To get it to sing universe Reload it then
Try either of these options
1 type universe in the 1st note it will split it out over the 3 notes - but to me it sounds more like you-nah-verse
2 type you in 1st note, knee in 2nd and verse in 3rd
I have no idea how to pronounce ‘verss’ and neither does the app hence it sings la.
Bearing in mind it’s currently free I think saying it’s a ‘hard pass’ as though it’s some evil plot is kind of melodramatic.
Kind of, yes. But maybe it's just not really my cup of tea on multiple levels, this is merely my subjective opinion
There is an option to enter phonetic in case of the "laa" symptoms.
I don't understand why this app is so badly perceived. I think it is incredible and unique on iOS and the price (free now) is beyond all understanding...
There is a little learning curve, yes. But it is not complex.
I attempted various phonetics but it always overrode them and sang “laa”. It took quite a few attempts to finally get it to sing “nee”, let alone “verse”.
It was a “proof of concept” test for me but was instantly frustrating and it was quickly obvious that this isn’t the app for me right now as it stands.
Good luck with it though - would be nice to come back to it at some point.
-Enter your three notes
-Write "universe" on the first note (will be automatically split on the 3 notes)
-Adapt phonetic where needed like here
I understand that it can be a little bit frustrating at first but I think it worth spending a bit of time on it
