Weird decent sampler problem

Recently I have been having some issues with decent sampler - yes, weirder than the usual DS bugfest. See the video below. Every time I raise the filter cutoff - the knob in the middle - it quickly comes down again. No parameter automation going on in this session. Neither on this channel nor any other. Why would this happen?

  • Maybe the instrument has its default settings and reverts to those?!
So the UI knobs are just temporary changes and revert to default after an unknown but fixed period.

Don't know how responsive the developers are but it's worth reporting...
(They could in turn shove the responsibility over to those who created the presets).

  • Have contacted the dev! Just want to see if others are having the same issues.

DS continues to be one of the best apps out there / one of the buggiest apps I've ever come across. Drives me up the wall

  • I had a really difficult time getting this particular Sound Library to install. When that happens I convert the package to a zip file and unzip it. Then I look inside for samples I could import into AudioLayer. But today… the *dslibrary named file imported.

I don’t hear the sounds you’re showing in the video for Isometra 19 and the middle control (“filter cutoff” thank you) does not jump back when set by hand.

    Here’s a Decent Sampler story:

There’s a new library in the Decent Sampler Store with a great demo: “Ethereal Voices” from Echoes Blue Music priced at $10.

I HAVE NEVER GIVEN DAVID HILOWITZ A SINGLE PENNY and Decent Sampler now controls 54GB’s of instruments on my iPad.
All free from PianoBook.UK.co in Decent Sampler format or free from the apps Store page.

David Hilowitz is the developer and he’s ported his free app to Mac, Windows and IOS. His YouTube channel has videos teaching how to make and package sample libraries (SFZ, Decent Sampler, Kontakt, Reaper). He’s also a musician with
    Over 10 albums.

So, I thought I should slip the developer $10 for the value gained to date… but “Ethereal Voices” errors out with a statement:

So, I figure I should get the Library for my Mac and test it out. So, I buy the Mac version for $10 and try to install on Decent Sampler for M1 Mac. I get a similar error stating I didn’t BUY this library.

So, I moved the LIbrary download to my iPad so I can unzip it and raid it for the samples. Well, the samples are encrypted which explains the errors… Decent Sampler has to contact some database to determine license rights.

I paid with PayPal and am pursuing a refund. Hopefully, the software gets fixed to recognize iPad purchases and decrypt the samples. The demo is lovely. I was inspired to buy “Sopranotron 2” (Sopranotron “1” went away in the night) and made my own “Ethereal Vocal” instrument in AudioLayer.

  • @McD very great info. I actually recently read that about zipping and unzipping. Cheers.

If you look into the dspreset file, you might find that the cutoff has a default MIDI mapping. You can download the file format description, and they're not that hard to read.

I think many of the oddities/problems with these files are down to the varying ways the producers create them. So, every new package is a new adventure. I've had good luck, except for some window size issues that can be fixed by reloading in a larger window (in AUM).

  • Thnx, I'll maybe contact Cameron (Venus Theory) directly, since he made the pack

@McD I feel your pain. Dave Hilovitz seems like a nice guy, but he really should have got someone else to code this app.
