  • Been on the beta for this one as well and I really liked it! Laid out in an intuitive way and really simple and to the point.

Looking forward to using this and it’s available on both iOS and Mac however the Mac version does not display properly either in standalone or AUv3. I’m on an intel Mac mini running OS 12.5.1

Edit: The standalone version opened fine the first time I opened it (with the white display) however after opening the AUv3 which continues to open with the white display now the standalone version instantly crashes when trying to open it. I can send the crash report if you would like.

  • Hello,

I bought the IOS version last night. I had my iPad set to Light so I encountered the illegible white screen problem. Switching to Dark Mode resolved that problem. How do I stop the player from automatically sequentially playing the included midi files? I want it to loop the file that I loaded rather than act as a 'midi jukebox'

    Thanks for reporting.
It is quite difficult to understand what you described, I will look at this.

So it is an Intel Mac?

    Yes

    A question:
Did you have to purchase both versions separately?
What did you purchase first iOS or Mac version?
This is still a question I have, because it is completely unsure, how Apple handles this.

I happened to purchase on Mac first but I don’t think it would matter because I remember similar behavior when purchasing Animoog Z. After purchasing on Mac, I had to trust that it would let me download on iOS and after clicking purchase on iOS, I got the message that I already own it and did I want to download.

The standalone crashes ever since I opened the AUv3 plug-in. A brief message flashes about loading AUv3 then instant crash. I can send the crash report to you in a private message or tell me where to send it.

  • I used my normal audio interface (Apogee Symphony Desktop) which I always use. I opened the standalone first and it did open with the white display. I was able to play the default midi file for a bit then closed it and opened the plug-in, now the standalone app crashes.

I’m sending the crash report in a few minutes.

ok I used last one code (L74L4W4LEYTK ), thank you! after this on my iphone I was able with no problem download the app.

Nice buildin midi files and overall warm pleasurant timbre, with super small size of app.

    Used this one: JJREAAHR6AR3. Thanks!
It allows to load the IOS version

(Uh. First thoughts: it sounds like an AUv3 registration issue or glitch. That's such a thing, which is very difficult to detect and fix. Because nobody knows exactly what Apple is doing under the hood here. AUv3 registrations are completely opaque Apple internals. I hope I can solve it soon or find a workaround.)

    But Important:
Which host did you use for opening the AudioUnit ?

I used Hosting AU which opens all of my other AUv3 plugins on Mac but I’ll try the AUv3 later with Logic. Obviously I didn’t use a host with the standalone app which is where the crash occurs.

It could be that a host did change something, as the location of AUv3 units is the sandboxed container app, the main app. This is the reason for potential OS security problems with such.

  • @White very comprehensive release post. The video, the manual link, App Store link, we appreciate what you do. Cheers.

  • jason i just tried 2 codes this one 67K7F347ANWR said This is for Mac Only. However this one L74L4W4LEYTK said it’s already been redeemed. Hopefully that helps in some way. Cheers.

  • edited February 2023

jason This one says must be redeemed in Mac Store too. X9L4HMJ9FJMF
    So did this one. MNXYJ9EEWFXX
    And this one too. KYWKMWLYW7TJ

  • Oh I see you were wondering if the Mac codes would also let you download the iPad version as well. I thought you were trying to see if they would work either way. It’s all good. I tried them all I think. Some have been redeemed, the rest said Mac store only.

  • jason dont have Mac but that’s still super cool of you to just drop 10 codes in a thread. Cheers!

I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t had the time to test the betas like I wanted too. I think most of yours still have 67 days or so left on TestFlight though. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try some more out for ya and report back.

@Poppadocrock: Ah yeah. this are mac codes.
You will get your iOS code later.

For reals. Awesome. I haven’t been awake that long, saw codes, and started trying them, lol. Right on. Let me get to some testing for you then. Cheers!

That’s weird, I had Midi Module in TestFlight but it’s not there anymore, and through your other apps it says beta not accepting new testers. I’m guessing you pulled the beta since it was released? Or maybe that was one of the betas you didn’t renew.. either way it’s all good. But if you do still want some testing and it is still on TestFlight let me know. Thanks.

    😅

So for the tracking: if you have a mac, you can cross load the iOS versions. And vice versa. There are mac promo codes and there are iOS promo codes. But you cannot redeem a mac code on the iOS and vice versa.

That's confusing, yet in the manner that Apple loves so much.

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

    Exactly.
We pull the beta versions now at release day.
This has certain (somewhat unpopular) reasons.

One of the reasons is, that obviously no one buys the app, if there is an open beta.
We did see sales drops to literally ZERO. And this is no good. We must eat something too.
Well, except HAL. He just needs electricity, but that's actually not free either.

that makes sense, I was just going to specifically go do some testing on MM and it wasn’t there. No worries at all. Thanks for letting me know. Congratulations on the new release! I wish you the best. Cheers!

Confirmed. I took MNXYJ9EEWFXX and was able to download it on iOS as well. Nice selection of songs included 😎
Thanks a lot, very generous of you!

  • I redeemed 3ERNFMREXL99 on my Intel MacBook and the app was available without hassle on my iPhone and iPad. Thanks! I feel bad using the code, but wanted to test.

I'll buy another Jax product to make up for the freebie. 😎

  • The AUv3 loads in GarageBand on the Mac but the UI was unresponsive until I resized the window. After I did that once it seems to work fine even on reload.

  • Redeemed PE9NYWNXJYHJ, thank you!

  • I used KYWKMWLYW7TJ and all works fine on Mac mini M1 and iPad Pro M1.
    Thanks!
I'll follow Wims vim and buy something else from your collection.

stopping: with the stop button at bottom.
looping: ok, this can be implemented as an option.
(possibly also an option for disabling loading a random file at startup.)

    Thanks!

I tried this on my M1 Mac. It works fine.

One useful option would be Solo buttons in addition to the Mute buttons.

  • Never thought of sound fonts.

So with this app. Piano motifs. Kq sampei and soundfont audio.

    What do you need.

What do you get from app etc?

  • edited February 2023

I took code MHN6H7W7K79P and installed on an Intel Mac. The iOS version was immediately available to me on my iPad Pro 11" M1 and installed without any problem.

    WHAT?

A multitimbre tone module is a device that was invented late 80s early 90s as hardware. Mostly with a GM (General MIDI) compatible sound set. These devices were often paired with MIDI file players or sequencers for composing and playing back these files. Still very popular for Karaoke today.

These devices are multi-timbre synthesizers, meaning you can play 16 different instruments and/or drum maps simultanously with a certain maximum polyphony.

The MIDI file specification very much is the base of such tone generators. I do not know how old you are, but I started my first musical steps with such an universal tone generator. It was the YAMAHA MU 100. It had allot of extension boards and was a complete production power machine, if connected to a sequencer.

However the product here is made for best MIDI file playback and comes with a reduced ROLAND GS sound set. The GS sound set was created specifically for the Roland Sound Canvas, which also was such a hardware device.
    .

Soundfonts, now, came much later. The first sound card was featuring the EMU 8000 chip, later the Soundblaster AWE, which still used the EMU chip, which could load sound fonts, a kind of compiled tables of mapped samples, similar like a sampler. But creating sound-fonts was a tedious work actually and real Samplers came much later.

😰 yikes, i did become quite old.

    Thanks.

What can I do with just app.

What are you doing with kq sampei additionally?

Seems like a mix of something.

You mean what the difference between KQ Samplei and JAX MIDI Module&Player is?

So just try it. How it sounds.
But Samplei cannot load and play MIDI files. It also does not map the drum channel correctly as you can hear in the video. But you can for instance use JAX for sending the MIDI file events to Samplei.

Other Soundfont players are not even multi timbre and won”t be able to play back a MIDI file as audio unit therefore.

You can still create your own 16 channel setup with AUM or any other host and then load a sequencer plugin and connect anything. But this approach most likely will not work perfectly for just quickly loading a MIDI file for listening or audition.

You can even create an entire arrangement with a sequencer or MIDI editor and then load with JAX for backing arrangement or whatever. But mainly it is thought for playing GM kompatible MIDi files (there are billions around everywhere) with good results.

It is specifically made for 1.) managing and playing MIDI files quickly as standalone app, and as an audio unit for environments, that do not provide midi players, like AUM or Matrix and such…

    .
We used Samplei in the video for demonstrating the MIDI send function of our internal MIDI sequencer.
Because it (Samplei) is one of the rare audio units, that is multi timbre with 16 channels, which is a requirement for playing back standard MIDI files.

    Thanks for explanation Jason.
