Rhythmyzzah for Mozaic: experiment with different rhythms

So... I was looking for a RhythmBud alternative and ended up writing something somewhat similar in Mozaic 😅

(apparently RhythmBud 2 is in the works so I'll also keep an eye out for that)

Anyway... here's what I came up with; I'm quite happy with it and hopefully some of you will find it useful.

NOTE: new release, still in "beta".
Save / "print" the output in your project / as MIDI before closing your session.

Description

This script outputs the notes it receives as input, changing their rhythm.
Rhythms can be defined toggling the 16 pads and up to 8 different patterns can be stored
per instance. Additionally, each pattern can also output to a different MIDI channel and have a different tempo.

Features

  • Up to 16 steps
  • Up to 8 different patterns
  • Per step velocity (defaults to the incoming notes velocity if not set)
  • Manually set the max numbers of steps (per-pattern)
  • Tempo subdivisions: 1/32, 1/16t, 1/16, 1/8t, 1/8, 1/4t, 1/4, 1/2, whole
  • Select output channel to quickly listen how the current pattern sounds with a different instrument
  • Tempo and Channel settings are per-pattern
  • Latch steps together to sustain notes
  • "Experimental" / partial support to odd time signatures (3/4, 5/4, etc.)

How to use

  • Ensure Mozaic is receiving MIDI notes
  • Select the tempo subdivision
  • Select the MIDI channel for the current pattern
  • Select a step and set a custom velocity
  • Toggle the pads / steps corresponding to when you want the notes to play
  • Toggle between OFF -> ON -> Latch with following -> OFF
  • Tap a step holding SHIFT to select without changing state (to check or change velocity)
  • Change pattern to experiment with a different rhythm
  • Tap SHIFT while playback is stopped to mute all notes (panic)
  • Hold SHIFT (while playback is stopped) and use the tempo knob to change the number of steps

    Updates

    ➡️ v. 1.1.0 beta

    • it's now possible to manually specify the number of steps

  • This looks really useful. Thank you for sharing.

wow seem to be very useful, I´m experimenting a lot with plyrithms and even different rithm for each note inside the same chord ,i´ll try it later, but this script does something like that?

ok! watching the video it seem it does something else, but still really useful! Thanks!

I could allow for it to let you manually specify the number of steps, which should mean you can get some ability to generate polyrhythms if I'm not mistaken. Would that be useful?

Of course that will open new possibilities 😍

  • speaking of possibilities... was waiting to try this since last weekend and... it's good fun!

I combined it with The Chordulator (by @wim) and this is the result:

A nice one - thanks! Here is a little something using your script with some old, detuned piano.

nice! thanks for sharing :) - the bass wasn't using the script right, or was it?

No, it was done using rhythmbud, take a look:
