Hyperdrive 6-1 usb-c dongle
I am thinking of getting a 2022 ipad pro 12.9 and wondered if anyone has had experience with this;
https://www.johnlewis.com/hyper-hyperdrive-6-in-1-usb-c-hub-adapter-for-ipad/p6212971
I will buy a protective case for the ipad pro and I am concerned the dongle will not connect properly with attached cover.
Are there any alternatives as Apple have taken the headphone jack away but not produced a simple adapter that can power the ipad pro and charge at the same time.
Thanks

There have been some reports of those dongles that hang off the side of the iPad causing damage to the USB-C port.
There are lots of options, IMO you're better off just getting a splitter for the power, and using the Apple headphone dongle and a cheap hub. I've covered pretty much every option here:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/52956/usb-c-everything-you-wanted-to-know-but-were-afraid-to-ask
I have one, love it!
I use the included cable so I can keep my case on.
My only suggestion is: make sure the screws for the included adapter are snug if you use the cable because if it’s loose you won’t get a consistent connection. Originally I didn’t screw the adapter in because I wanted the option to take it off quickly if I so choose. Lesson learned: tighten those screws 👍
Oh and it works well with MacBooks too.
Thank you Richard,
I will have a read through.👍
That's good to know. Do you have a 2022 ipad pro as the blurb on the website states it only works on 3rd/4th and 5th Gen ipad pro's, no mention of the latest 6th Gen?
Thanks Mike.
Yessir, 2022 iPad Pro 11
Thanks for the heads up.
Cheers
Great post @richardyot. It seems to be a veritable minefield! I checked out the Kingston Nucleum, on Amazon UK they are £37.59 plus having to purchase the Apple headphone dongle, Argos £9.00, nearly brings it up to the same price of the Hyper Drive which comes with a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack. Another point stuntman mike made was the Hyper drive comes with an extension cable so it doesn't have to hang off the ipad pro and can be securely fitted, making it a great choice but no mention of e markers for transfer speeds but take a look at their website blurb;https://uk.targus.com/collections/usb-hubs/products/hyperdrive-6-in-1-usb-c-hub-for-ipad-pro-air-silver-hd319b-silver
“ High-Speed USB-A
Connect your USB-A accessories with your modern USB-C device. High-speed USB 3.1 Gen 1 capable of 5Gb/s transfer speed.”?
You don't need the Nucleum IMO, as time went on I added to the thread, this is the conclusion I eventually came to:

Apple’s 3.5mm dongle is probably better quality too, audio-wise. It’s pretty much the same as the headphone jack before they removed them, I have read.
What's the sound quality like coming from the 3.5mm headphone output? Do you have the Apple USB-C headphone dongle for comparsion?> @mistercharlie said:
That's a good point, thanks.
That is still alot of clutter though, don't you think?
I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 so I could go straight out of the Ipad pro into the USB -C port on the back? at the moment I still use my 2nd Gen Ipad Pro with headphone jack to the front inputs on the scarlett.
If all you want is power and a headphone socket there’s a usb C version of the belkin rockstar.
I think you can have as much or as little clutter as you want. Any hub is going to add clutter, but I understand the appeal of the devices that connect straight into the side of the iPad - it's just that there are some reports of these devices eventually causing damage to the port.
But yes you can run your Scarlett straight into the iPad, no hub, no power. It will work but of course it will drain the battery faster.
That looks like a good candidate for what I need, nice and simple and I take it you just plug the included apple charger into this?

The sound quality is good and yes, I have a dongle too. I don’t notice a difference.
Yup - I’ve got a lightning version that works fine with my iphone.
Thanks guys
That was my first reaction, too, Richard, but then I made it to picture #4 🙂. But yeah, use it with a cable if you go for this one.
@Sandstorm
My experience is very good. Here few photos how it works together with apple smart case.
Worst case you can use it with this extensions. It's solid cable, looks like it will hold.
Thanks
Brilliant, thanks.
Thanks for the pictures. I think I will get this, or maybe the Anker version looks good; https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B096LV7W9D/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AISREEIOH9TSP&psc=1
Just found out, reading customer questions, the Anker hub I just quoted does not charge the Ipad Pro, so it's no good unfortunately.
This one is what I have it has pd and ethernet

Unfortunately there's no headphone out on this.
Yes I prefer it that way. I always use the hub with an audio interface. The little apple headphone adapter is much more comfortable on the couch.
This one has headphone and also vga.

I would use this one only hooked up to power, otherwise the iPad battery might drain too fast.
And the HDMI is only 30Hz...
