  • ScaleBud 2 has a bonus AUv3 app called Scale Finder. You can input the notes and see the scales containing those notes.

that’s pretty interesting. cool for piano. i will definiy use it for that. is there a setting to display that scale on a fretboard.
essentially i’m trying to take a power chord and see what notes around the power chord (or any chord) , i can play a lick off of or solo.

  • Pensato also does this:

  • You need to be careful when inputting notes and expecting a scale to be input, as there are multiple scales that can be applied to a set of notes.

While these tools are useful, scale is as much a function of context as they are of individual notes.

Oh scalebud 2. i have scalebud original. I may have to go buy that today. thanks for the recomendation

  • Tonality let’s you input notes on a fretboard.. super quick + easy..

  • There’s so many potential options. Theres a bunch of guitar scale apps, and chords apps. If you know the notes of each fret position already that expands your options even more, allowing you to simply enter note names, or notes on a keyboard to find a scale. This is only a small offering of what’s available. You would definitely stumble across some good options by simply searching, guitar scales, or scale finder, or several other combinations of a few words.

    Some Au options

    Tonality
    Scalebud 2
    Scaler 2
    MidiMorphisis2

    IAA

    Jam Maestro

Also… the apps below will tell you what chord it is by adding notes on a fretboard. Once you know the chord that will obviously help you narrow down the scale.

    Guitar Kit+
    What Chord
    Chord Guitar
    Chord Solver

If you know the actual notes you are hitting on the fretboard then there are a bunch of options.

    Key Finder+
    Key Finder - Musical Scales
    KeyFinder
    Scale Finder

There’s also lots of apps for guitar scales

    Fretboards
    Grapes
    Byell Harmony
    Scale Know - Guitar Scales

    Other options

    FretBud
    Guitarist’s Refrence
    All Guitar Chords
    Pro Scale
    Guitar Scales and Modes
    Guitar Scales Chart
    Proscale
    Guitar Scales Essentials
    Etc…..

oh wow what a list…. your awesome. thank you so much. out of all of these, i’m bound to find something.

  • Yea @eross you definitely will, there’s a lot of good free ones too. There isn’t a ton of options that let you input the notes on the strings and display the possible scales, at least that I know of, some but not as many as other apps like guitar scales, and scale finders. There are a ton that let you input note names, or notes on a piano and show most likely scales. A bunch to let you input notes on a fretboard to show you what chord it is.. and a bunch of guitar scale apps. If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for, there is no doubt an easy workaround with an app or two, to find out what you need to know. I think Tonality or Scaler 2 might be your best bets, for using a FretBud to find scales. Cheers!

  • @Poppadocrock so far , I am really liking guitar scales essentials. it’s not what I was looking for but now that I found it. wow. this thing is gonna be very very helpful.
thanks again for suggesting it. i cannot say how much I really appreciate that extensive list you sent. I am gonna dig through all of those apps this weekend. so cool

Don't think this has been mentioned but I think I've been using it for around a 15 years to reverse engineer chords and scales. GuitarToolkit.
