Spacey Ambient | “The Envoy’s Dream”

Who can guess which Netflix sci-fi series inspired this??

Semi-generative parts made using LK Matrix’s and StepPolyArp’s randomisation/probability features.

I intend to post more, so I’ve set up a dedicated YouTube channel - another iOS voice in the digital music wilderness B).

Critical comments welcomed as I want to up my game over time (this is my first creation post - caveat: the production is far from amazing!).

Edit: here’s an audio only version on Soundcloud;

it’s a bit different to the YouTube one since each play through is unique (it has generative elements). Improved the level balancing a bit.

  • It's a cold, rainy morning here in Los Angeles, and this song helps to evokes the 2019 Los Angeles of Blade Runner. Very nice. And flows perfectly from the Vangelis album I'd been listening to beforehand. Lots of lovely atmosphere, and just enough emotion with that brassy synth pad. Really liking this.

    Many thanks Tadat - Blade Runner fan right here so I love that you got that vibe B) This piece was inspired by Altered Carbon (which was clearly inspired by Blade Runner).

  • Instrumentation was perfect and everything sounded exactly as if it was supposed to be there. Would have loved brass to be a tad more melodic and gone full soaring Vangelis, but the mood, the ambience, it was all there, and held my attention throughout.

  • Thanks a lot @belldu ! The brass, like many of the other parts, was played by StepPolyArp (fed by ChordPolyPad) making use of its randomization and probability options. I wanted to see how much ‘generative’ I could incorporate. I wouldn’t disagree with you though, that part in particular (a highlight for me) probably would be better played live instead of left to chance :)

  • Don’t have Netflix but appreciate the obvious Blade Runner influences. Lovely track, not afraid to take its time. Some great sounds and I’m even enjoyed the voice over which is most unlike me, perhaps because I didn’t understand a word of it 😊

    Many thanks Tony :smile: The main character in Altered Carbon is an “envoy”, he’s half Japanese so I added soothing 2 Japanese poems - that’s the spoken word you were enjoying. The rain, the CS80 brass etc - all Blade Runner signatures and AC is very much in the BR vein. Appreciate you taking the time!

  • Nice !! just finished listening in the background while on the forum here, very well crafted. Quite immersive and fantastic use of instruments and midi/audio fx over the course of the journey. Great job wired2moon!

  • I have only one word to say:

    This is an effing good piece of music!

  • I said it before and I’ll say it again: great work!

  • Thanks so much @citizenK @jo92346 and @Svetlovska very motivational reading your comments!

    I’ve gone and added a SoundCloud audio only version to my original post - it’s a bit different, the generative elements make every playback unique and I think the levels are better. Bark Filter triple band FTW :)
