Music Distributor

I've been looking into various distribution companies and there's a lot out there to look at. I saw a video last night about Horus Music and the guy on the video said to take down your music would be £100. So I emailed them and in a quick response they said take down doesn't cost anything.

I live in England so Horus would be a good fit for me as far as currency stuff goes. Their prices seem reasonable and they've got some good options. Has anyone had any experience with Horus or would Distrokid or A.N Other be better?

Comments

  • Why not Bandcamp?

  • Bandcamp is certainly an option. I’d like to know what experiences people have had with music distributors, or even if it’s worth having one. I’m not planning on becoming a famous artist or anything.

  • I've always been happy with CDbaby for getting my music on all the major platforms. They have good reporting, the process is easy, and it's not too expensive without any hidden take down fees and the like. A lot of my clients use distrokid for their aggregator, and I'd guess about 60% are happy and 40% are so so from what I've heard.

If you just want to feature your music, there are a lot of places you can simply post for your enjoyment or for friends. YouTube is also an alternative.

  • distrokid has been a good stable option for the last 2 years or so…but there have been tumultuous episodes from time to time before that…but nothing at fiasco level of tunecore.

cdbaby rock solid..but no effective collaboration features. these are brilliantly implemented in distrokid

Can you expand upon the collaboration features? I'm looking to invest in Distrokid very soon

Thanks, do you have any recommendations please?

  • I’ve signed up with Horus but not paid anything yet, they don’t have a way to distribute Dobly Atmos at the moment, I’ve been emailing someone there since late last year about it and they said they are looking into it but it seems they’re still looking into it as of last week

No progress on that aspect means I have not released my album yet, which is otherwise finished (at least on the audio side) – I intend only releasing it as an Atmos release, ignoring everyone else who can’t listen in Atmos, and the distributor must be in the UK, so at the moment it’s going nowhere

    I suppose there’s no hurry

  • Always done CDbaby in the past but Horus looks interesting.

  • CDBaby is one payment of $10 for an album. Distrokid is $20 ANNUALLY.

  • I like this deal for the EP package on Horus for £35/$43, the 3-track single package is £25/$31and album is £45/$55. Pay as you go deals no contract and no takedown costs.
