AUM DSP better on newest iPad?
I currently work on a 2nd gen iPad Pro. I think it’s five years old now? I use AUM as my main platform, and habitually get a lot of tracks running, with plenty of fx. Unsurprisingly, I hit the DSP limit pretty hard. Of course I do what I can to mitigate the issue, but I still do hit the ceiling regularly.
I’m considering getting the latest gen iPad Pro, but I’m wondering how much of a quantitative improvement it would actually be. Does anyone have direct experience with the newer vs the older models, and can you say if there’s a distinct, measurable increase in DSP overhead?

Simply put, yes. I’m pretty sure even the new iPad Airs, which perform surprisingly close to the new Pros, smoke a 5 year oldish Pro.
Someone here with more specific knowledge please correct me if I’m wrong.
M2 12.9” Pro User here, it’s night and day difference, you will not believe your eyes
Wondering how it compares to the 3rd 2018 Pro. The difference between that and the 2nd gen is phenomenal
Although I should clarify I’m coming from a basic 2018 iPad, so you can imagine the jump! I didn’t read the first post properly 🙃
Check these benchmarks: https://browser.geekbench.com/ios_devices/11
If I understand them correctly, the newer model should be three times more powerful than the 2nd gen.
Wow, interesting to see that the smaller screen Pro models are often outperforming the larger screen models by a very large margin
??
In the geekbench chart, the 12.9 inch gen-6 pro is the highest rated device for both single and multi-core performance.
The generation of the device is more important than the screen size.
Look at the list. 11 inch ipad Pro 3rd gen vastly outperforms the 3rd gen 12.9 inch according to this
3rd gen 12.9 inch scores 1332, 11 inch scores 2230
You also have to remember that when the 1st Gen 12.9" was released there was no 11" iPadPro at all...
If you check the 5th Gen 12.9 and 3rd Gen 11" both with the M1 they are pretty much spot on with each other.
Yes Samu, I'm just referring to the difference between the 3rd gen Pro 11 inch and 12.9 inch. Wondering why the difference is so big.
5th Gen 12.9” is almost the same as 3rd Gen 11”, they were released at the same time…
There’s no point in comparing 3rd Gen 12.9 with 3rd Gen 11” as there’s almost over a two year time-gap.
I should have been more precise. I should have said “processor model“. I
Geekbench is using generation in a way that muddies the waters — as the various devices listed as 3rd gen use different processors. What is important is not the screen size but the processor. The iPad Pro labeled 3rd Gen is an A12 model, the 11-inch uses an M1.
Ah, that's interesting, I assumed the 3rd gen models were released at the same time
Fair fair, thank you for clarifying Ed, had no idea this was the case
