Thafknar AUv3 problems
I've used Thafknar on my iOS devices for a good few years now. Definitely the best Convolution app in the store for my experimental IR purposes.
I purchased the AUv3 and Presets upgrade a few years ago, but my AUv3 instances don't seem to work any more when hosted in AUM. There's the usual yellow triangle exclamation mark shown which indicates something isn't working correctly? I'm on a Mini 5 running 15.4.1. The standalone (which works fine) indicates that AUv3 and Presets are installed, so it doesn't seem to need a restore of these? I've been away from my iPad for a while so I have no indication of how long it hasn't been working.
I've sent Markus an email, but I thought I'd try you guys in the meantime. Any ideas on how I might be able to get it running in AUM again?
Btw. Thafknar AUv3 is working correctly in AUM on my old iPod Touch 6.
Comments
It is working fine for me on iPad 6 and ios 16.2. Check your buffer settings both in AUM and THAFKNAR which got its own buffer settings in the most recent update.
Ralph, please check the buffer size setting in AUM. My suspicion is that it is either too small and/or that it does not fit to the convolution buffer size setting in Thafknar AUv3. The latter setting is new in Thafknar 8.0. Normally it is best to keep it at the "Auto" value.
The situation can be worsened when the hardware sample rate (which is fixed to 48kHz in the iPad mini 5) differs from the project sample rate, which leads to fluctuating audio buffer size lengths. Since version 8.0, Thafknar can deal with this, but it possibly leads to spikes in CPU usage. Choosing a larger buffer size in AUM can mitigate the problem.
And not to forget: Check the max. convolution time option in the Thafknar AUv3 settings. It says how much time you give the convolution operation to complete. In case of a too small value, you will get the CPU overload warning.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction; the max convolution parameter seems to have been globally reset to zero in the AUv3 version. As simple as that; sorry for the drama; all perfectly good now.
Can someone provide any additional info on this? I’ve tried every possible combination of the settings listed above and can’t get past this error. I’ve never had an issue with this app before. A screenshot or something more specific than “too small” would be appreciated.
I am sorry for the trouble. Version 8.1 with a bug fix is in review.
For the case you don't want to wait: Open the AU view, Switch to the Settings view (by tapping the arrows icon at the top left of the Parameters view). Move the "Max. convolution time" slider to the right.
Thanks for the quick reply. I didn’t realize there was a separate settings screen in the auv. Think I’m good now.
