  • I'm definitely in. I'm not buying anything but fully learning these many apps I have tons of is a great idea. I think I'll start with Loopmix since it has a sequencer and can be used in Standalone mode.

    Cyclop and Cality.

Couldnt be bothered to see if Drambo had a swing module. It has a delay module.

Cyclop for evolving wub bass but probably wont use wub.

Its a bass alternative to 808. Shockwave etc.

Factory. Apparillo were my first bought synths, which Iv returned to for versiltity. Now with Cyclop. Not sure Id buy Egoist as found Reslice to be cool.

I need to dive into Loopmix myself. Last I tired I was having problems loading in custom sounds. But love the presets and functionality.

I agree. Supporting devs for the sake of it doesn't make any sense whatsoever

You mean to you it doesn’t make any sense.
Or are you trying to speak for me?

To me it makes perfect sense, which is why I do it. Nowhere did I advocate anyone else on earth do as I do. I shared what I do, and why I do it.

If you make an app, I will support you and buy it, even if it turns out to totally suck. But I also work a lot, and hard, and have a bit of extra cash to buy apps.

And mocha chino triple half-caf skinny caramel spiced extra sugar no foam extra creamer cappuccino’s.

    Fair enough!

  • I’m very attracted by this idea, though at present reluctant to commit. Just started a new musical journey and no idea where it’ll lead, so I may need extra tools at some point. Though probably/hopefully not. Plus I’ve set aside cash for upcoming AudioThing releases, particularly the Hainbach related ones.

I’ve bought stupid numbers of apps in the BF sales last year and the year before, and it’s time I got some proper use out a load of them.

  • I will join if it can be renamed the ‘At-Least-One-App-Per-Month-Club’

There's nothing wrong with trying and failing. You could even try to leverage stackable months, and see how far it takes you. Learn all he apps you have, in the meantime.

If anything, a change would go in the other direction, á la "Just effin' use wot y'already got!". But not sure why I'd start a thread that I wouldn't be able to commit to ;)

  • I support the spirit of this thread.
Is it enough to just use an app as a rompler using its presets only? I have so many synth apps that I feel I haven’t used the sounds already available to me. I have little free time to spend and feel the need to focus on creating music over going down sound design rabbit holes. I also tend to judge a synth by its presets (which may not be entirely fair), so focusing on one app may help me to decide to just sample a few presets and delete the app.
Or is the intent here to dive deep and create new patches? I’m pretty sure I won’t stick with other DAWs that I have but don’t use, byt I could sample and delete some of those.

I definitely intend to go back and refine/change the original post. While I did think it could be worthwhile for others to follow, it was really set up as a statement-of-intent to counter my own negative patterns.

The idea about making synth-presets was by way of demonstrating some level of understanding of the synth. It needn't be a deep-dive, full-on mastery of the synth. but I guess, the synth presets thing could just be an 'encouragement'. For non-synth apps, the learning part is inherent in getting it to function, which will be necessary if it's going to be used in a project.

So, perhaps, all that needs to be in place is the app limit and the commitment to use in a project. The other parts can be suggestions.

Unless Aalto or arturia’s buchla (or some fancy new west coast semi modular) gets a surprise release, I’m holding out for Audiothing and Hainbach’s “Noises”. I bought it already on pc but it’s so good I want it in my iOS “studio”

I think many of us can relate to this and the general idea may be a good way for me to ferret out apps that I am not only not using now, but probably won’t use in the future and should be deleted. I have 800 apps (mostly music) and should get rid of a lot of them. That may not really be the intended spirit and maybe should be in an Appaholics Anonymous thread.

That's the one I've been holding out for. I have nothing like that on either desktop or iOS.

But i'm more interested in music only stuff, as that's where the money went.

It's really simple I guess, but it produces so many happy accidents and is perfect for experimental/ambient/freeform music, it's like a William Basinski machine. Being sample-based it's also super encouraging to get sampling all of your synths to experiment with!

This is the fast way... but only counts what you have installed (active and offloaded).
The most complete way to check is go to your purchases list on your account and add manually to a spreadsheet (last I checked there is no automatic way)

Then you can even check when you got them and how much you payed
    And then cry

I've briefly messed around with the desktop demo, and managed to achieve and pass-by so many great noises that could be used as beds etc; But there's so much potential as fodder for (Re)sampling.

I'm assuming all the greyed-out modules open up with a license?

If I want to cry these days there're far easier ways to go about it than eff around with spreadsheets lol :)

  • I will consider the ipad mini 6 I got yesterday as my march purchase, maybe as my 2023 purchase xD

Does this allow sample import, or are you talking about making and sampling your own noise using synths and a sampler?

Sample import. I dunno how it will work on iOS but on desktop you just drag and drop a file with 8 samples in the order you want. You can also add a photo and text description of your sample pack. It's perfect for sharing on the forum :)

Well, if ever there were a case for reading the effin' manual this would be it. I wonder if the desktop demo allows this? Will have to try it later.

    Thanks 😊

  • I've decided that my app for this month will be Beatmaker 3. Have owned it for a while now, but have barely scratched the surface.

  • Gonna be offline for a while, so might have to save my submissions till I’m back. Good luck to those who’ve joined in
