That sucks - he touched jazz in so many different ways. RIP.
Oh damn. Yes, 89 is a good age, but what a loss. I was lucky enough to see Weather Report in the early 80s, the lineup with Omar Hakim and Victor Bailey (? - hope I have his name right), and they were phenomenal. And lovely - after they’d finished playing, they came to the front of the stage and were shaking hands with the audience.
Big fan, from his days with Blakey, Miles, WR, his solo albums in the 60s. This might be my favorite Shorter project though:
Aww geez. How many more legends are we going to lose lately? A huge inspo, and a legendary composer as well as sax player.

my Dad was a big fan of this fellow.
Wow, I hadn’t heard that. One of the giants.
I was lucky enough to see him play in 2001.
I was mindblowned by that concert. Forever.
He had a such a strong presence on stage. Electrifying.
Such a great story teller with notes only such a poet and such a free spirit.
His music is accessible to anyone yet it is so deep and complex.
He leaves us after having given so much. Blessed be Wayne !
Native Dancer is so awesome! Not many know it, it seems.
He was such a giant. One of the best concerts I ever saw was with his band that had Brian Blade, Danilo Perez and John Pattituci.

Didn't know this one indeed. What a beautiful collab with Milton Nascimento!
The song Ponta de Areia is an all-time favorite song of mine (and it’s rhythm deceptively hard to play—at least for me).
Big lost for the music still, as someone said before, 89 year is a good good life journey i guess. But still, very sad with this news.
