Musical items badly packed by shops or not at all!

So in the last few weeks I have been buying numerous items from music stores here in the UK. On every occasion I ask if they can either double box the item or bubble wrap/shrink wrap the item for safer shipping to me to which they all reply, " Yes double boxing/ extra wrapping comes as standard".

So three items have turned up via couriers and have had no extra packaging at all, just the original box! with shitty labels all over them!

I am, maybe a bit OCD about this but the way I look at it is;

A. my expensive item has a better chance of arriving safe and sound.

B. If I want to re sell it at a later date I may get more money for it if a potential buyer see's the box is in perfect condition.

C. You would think it was in the music shops interest for it to get to me in one piece!

I am sure back in the day when I bought brand new items from UK stores they came double boxed or bubble wrapped/shrink wrapped.

I don't believe the crap about saving the planet because card board boxes can be recycled as can bubble wrap, which is what I do when buying and selling on Ebay.

Every time I watch a YT unboxing video from the states the item has been military grade packaged and if it's a sweetwater purchase you get candy!

FFS!

Any thoughts?

  • Back in the day I bought an SP1200 from Armen’s in NYC which they shipped to me in the U.K. with minimal protection after requesting extra for the long journey.
When it arrived it rattled and sounded as though something was loose inside.
I opened it up before turning it on and found the metal housing for the đisk drive hadn’t been fitted properly so had come loose on the journey.
A 2 minute fix but if I’d turned it on first it would likely have shorted the unit out.
I did contact then to complain but they couldn’t care less.

You might just need that planet if you want someone left to sell stuff to. Protecting cardboard boxes with plastic is a prime example of the folly of our times. There is a big difference between what can be recycled and what is recycled.

  • And buying stuff in slightly damaged packaging is a great way to save money on new gear. I’ve never bought anything that way that didn’t work perfectly.

  • Bought lots from Andertons in the UK good packaging and excellent delivery, padding made from crimped recycled rough brown paper. <3

  • Rubadub in Glasgow pack well.

I bought a T-Rex Acoustic Soulmate and it arrived in the original box with stamps on it. When I picked the box up the pedal fell out and I caught it before it hit the floor. Not even a piece of tape holding the box closed. One knob was bent and needed repair. All else seems fine but when I contacted them about it they blamed the courier and said it was their fault for taking delivery of the item without it being packaged properly. :# Beat that!

  • When I get an item through the post with the address labels stuck on the actual box it drives me nuts. I consider it to be defaced and send it back. What are they thinking about?? Petty in some peoples eyes perhaps, but that’s what I do.

Sounds like the name of a massage parlor in The Drag.

SP1200! wow that was the machine to have in the late 80s. So that must have been mega bucks and you receive it like that.

Yes but if we can all re use what's already in circulation then isn't that a good thing or better than chucking everything straight in the bin.

Rubadub is a great shop. It’s tiny but absolutely ram packed with goodies.
