More Footsteps In The Snow

@Paulieworld and @McD both suggested a solo over the top of the piece (Footsteps In The Snow) that I posted in January. I have to admit to being dubious but spookily I was noodling over one of Paulieworld’s fantastic pieces (Sad but True) when SoundCloud decided to play Footsteps… next. I thought the combination was OK so here is a version with a GeoShred lead 😊

Here is a SoundCloud version for those with an aversion to YT

  • Hi @GeoTony ,
    This is lovely.
Perfect with my cup of coffee.
So mellow, yet have the grit of the electric guitar, just perfect.
    Love this combo.

@GeoTony, I'm feeling glad that you've decided to revisit this.
This piece has haunted me since January and I too wondered what a melody might sound like above it.

This wasn't the reason for it remaining in my thoughts though.
I was also captivated by a thought that, up to a point, it sounded to me like the work of Nobuo Uematsu.
    This raised three questions:

    • Why did I think this?
    • What was the point at which I thought it diverged?
    • What would need to happen for it to be 'compatible' with his style?

I have been listening to as much of his work as I can in my spare time such that I can derive the answers that I need.

Despite my current obsessive fervour, I'm not sure whether I'll ever finish this train of thought, as I'm both super slow and easily distracted, but I'd love to rework it as a Final Fantasy ballad at some point :-)

For now, love the guitar, and that this piece continues to live on...

  • You have a real talent for finding just the right notes at the right time. Pat Metheny is a lot like that. Glad you decided to do this. Make more!

  • Thanks @ReneAsologuitar for the comment and your continued listening 👍
Thanks @belldu for the interesting thoughts. I had to Google Nobuo (I’m not a gamer) but will investigate further 🔍
Thanks @Paulieworld, you’re very kind. The only thing I have in common with Pat is I’ve got hair but even that is a poor imitation of his 😢

  • I love it!
I really need to dig geoshred.

  • @GeoTony. I only bought one of the games in the series about 20 years ago, but love his music.
Melodies are sweet with wonderful voice leading. With footsteps in the snow though the first chordal shift made me immediately sense a connection, and I'm still exploring the rest too...

Many of the game pieces were re-arranged as Piano Collections and while they have some perhaps unnecessary harmonic embellishments, I love them too!
