Intech grid controllers

edited March 2023 in Hardware

Are many folk here using Intech grid controllers?

I'm looking at them, and wondering what the quality is like? They seem to be a really good price, and nice form factor. I love the way you can expand the grid too. Anything I should know or avoid with this range?

I'm particularly interested in the EN16 and the EF44

  • The EF44 seems a bit expensive for 4 faders and 4 encoders. The EN16 looks nice with 16 endless encoders and all of the parameter options that can be setup (e.g., left vs. right, granularity, etc.).

I use (and really like) the Novation Launch Control XL. I like that it has 24 pots, 8 faders and 24 buttons (and the buttons can be set to momentary or latched). I also like that it can store 8 user templates. It's the same price as the EN16 (when the EN16 isn't on sale). I bought some really nice overlays on eBay and I am making custom controllers for several of my iPad synths.

Interesting, I have looked at the Launch Control XL. But found the size a little too big for me. Something else not appealing to me also, despite hearing only rave reviews about it from friends.

My ideal would be the EN16 from Intech, and the 16n fader bank from Slate + Ash.

Have you looked into the Midi Fighter Twister?
Fully customizable: The 16 knobs are multifunctional offering twist, press, press and twist, and side buttons for 4 banks of controls with LED feedback. So a CC can be assigned to twist, push and push and twist for each knob = 3 CC’s per knob!

  • Bump to ask if anyone bought one of these? Looking at one as a cheaper MF twister. Does the EN16 have different programs or scenes or whatever so you can go beyond 16 usable encoders?

    Grazie

  • Ok I spoke with a nice dude from intech and there are 4 "pages" of controls which means 64 knobs (I think) the encoders also have push buttons, so it looks basically a midifighter twister at half the price. I ordered one and will report back here as to how it goes

Can you send the report? Quite interested. Thanks a lot

  • Ok I’m here! So, I’m really loving it, there’s a LOT you can program on it with the editor down to animating the lights which can do different Colours or whatnot, but I’ve left mine as it came for now, it’s just plug and play with my iPad mini. There are 4 different pages that you can cycle through making for 64 possible different encoder controls and 64 different button controls, they each have a different colour led so you can tell where you are. It’s also possible to program a different control for turning the encoder left to when you turn it right… and you can also set it up for coarse and fine control with the editor. The company is super responsive and helpful.

You’ll need a computer to use the editor software.

The encoders are slimline as the device is pretty small, but it doesn’t feel cramped.

The encoders are incremental so there is a tactile click when you turn them, but they are not stiff.

Umm that’s it… I think the build quality isn’t the same as the midi fighter twister but at the price, it’s good, and I’m not going to do live shows with it.

I’m already considering getting the faders to add to it

  • Thanks a lot. Can you compare this with the launch control xl?

Thank you for the update, brilliant! I would go for the one you have, plus the faders. Although I'd love a 16n fader bank, and may build one of my own. I'm currently learning to build my own MIDI controllers.
