Like Drum computer. So enough sound design. All mappable parameters.

    Recommendations?

Fac Drumkit is great, lightweight, nice synth, sampler, or a combination of the 2. You won’t have multi-sampled layers, or multi velocity layers, but it’s clean, clear ui, envelopes, etc.. make it a great option for synth, single sampled drums, or a combo/mix of the 2.
I don’t mind not having a sequencer here, there’s several great sequencers available, and leaving it out makes the app much lighter on cpu/DSP and size. I’m still hoping to see a few more patches get up on Patchstorage for FAC DK.

Drambo fits the bill too. It can be almost anything really, a host, a piano roll/midi recorder, a clip launcher, an instrument/synth/drum machine/sampler/Wavetable device, an audio effect, a midi fx, etc…

I’ve actually kind of always thought of FAC DK as a simpler ( in a good way ) drum computer, without the internal sequencer. I love the random buttons too. FAC DK lets you dial things in, lovely touchscreen envelopes, and randomize each part if you like.

For something simpler another consideration could be a combination of Ruismaker and Ruismaker FM. Ruismaker for more standard drum machine type sounds, with limited individual sound synthesis tweaking but does have some options to alter or add fx to the sound. RuismakerFM is a drum synth great for any sound, but specializes in percussion noises, hats, Toms, bangs, boinks, bongs, all that stuff…

If AU is not a concern there’s DRUMLAB, DM2, Elastic Drums, all IAA and Audiobus compatible with good synth drum sounds.

What kind of sound engines does Drum computer have that Fac dosent have. A resonator? Can you add a Drambo resonator overlay?
It might be cool if Fac circles were midi mappable for auv3. Obviously there wouldnt be enough cc for all 16 parts and pages but somehow able to listen to midi channel, then cc. Effectivly an auv3 with midi mappable graphs for only some amount of parts. All other parts redunded but it will be auv3.

Ruismaker dosent seem to p-lock. It applies to next step.

Just used to a volca drum

So only Drambo or if Drumcomputer worked as multi apps.

Or just use fac the way its designed. If I want a variation of a sound. I have to make in fac drum. It dosent even have a mappable pitch or decay?

But think Id maybe be making 16 bar drums anyway.

P-locks were maybe to make a bar sound more than a bar.

I guess with apps like drum computer, drambo and volca drum. Its just where lazy and try create a song with just drums

Sound shaping between and with drums because of sound locks.

So its good to have regular drums but also be able to add sound locks which I guess add movement.

I think the problem is. I mainly added bass from an altered kick. Which is ultra lazy.

I guess p-lock of drum synthesis makes drums too synthy.

But I wouldnt ask for a volca drum to be an older volca version and Elektron ( Drambo ) made p-locks etc for a reason.

I guess I have to see about Drambo modules again.

These should have the synthesis of Fac drum and Drum computer?

    If not.

Theres obviously an app to be made.

Which doesnt need a sequencer, as part of app. Nor effects.

Beat mangling via keyboard is also cool.

It kind of helps with pattern design.

Will use Fac drum or Drambo for now.

Will just be finger drumming anyway.

    Started scratching again yesterday.

Found my blueboard works in Drambo.

    Will make a 16 auv3 Fac drum.

Would be cool a macbook instead of volca drum and a 3rd usb audio interface.

    What would you buy?

  • Piggybacking on this, is there a way to get user folders into Drumcomputer of hits in bulk, or is import one hit at a time and only the user folder with no other structure options?

Not sure but hope someone can answer question.

  • I assume Fac drum has more drum synthesis range. If other apps are just a knob.

  • I don't find anything quite like drum computer, it’s stupid deep. It runs a bit heavy with one instance on my 6th gen, around 35% or so. I’m sure you could build something relatively similar in Drambo but the randomization options on drum computer are very nice to have to get ideas started and I really love the sequencer on it. FAC is very deep too but drum computer has the wavetable ability

Made a 15 track Fac for now.

  • May have built a good ios drums.

Not worth going on about it.

Seems as happy as a volca drum but only really mapping. I hope to not return, complaining.

I think I can still sample a volca drum noise and it might be less weird even. The ios and volca mix.

  • Took my drum machine for a spin.

  • edited March 2023

Its just a spin from setting up.

    Liking my system.

Thats what the volca drum were ( resonators creating a duh-hur male voice ) but I also found a sort of additional noise synth that can be used sparingly with drums ( Fur Generator )

Sounds a bit like transformer scratch ( which is actually a hard scratch in crossfader hamster mode ) more so than fast crabs etc. Its because theres no set rythum and have to push away.

I will scratch more and maybe upload or just edit good stuff for tunes.

Theres a repetitive fur generator bit because I were adjusting swing per track via midi.

Its just 4 bars without much effort pattern wise.

not as far as I know.

or is import one hit at a time and only the user folder with no other structure options?

Hhhhmmmm try using dRum computers’ icloud folder instead.

Had done that too, buuuut I forgot after a new iOS install to go into Drumcomputer’s settings and flip on the iCloud sync. 😆. They’re there now.

+1. Even if the drum synth engine could be done in Drambo as well, the UI makes the difference.

    @sigma79
Try adding the Modal Resonator (start with the Membrane models), Waveguide, Convolver (with short impulse responses or just drum sounds loaded) and Peaking EQs plus Shot Samplers for more attack transients to add to the mix. These can get you very far if you have some patience.
