Old iPad Weird Battery Behaviour ... have you seen this?
Hi ... so my 6 year old iPad Pro 2017 battery is nearing its end of life, so I'm not surprised to find battery weirdness going on, but this latest twist was unusual.
I have noticed it since picking up iVCS3 two days ago, but not sure if there's any connection e.g. ghost processes left behind, background audio etc.
This morning my battery % was tumbling down, and went from 75% to 52% in about 15 minutes, while just doing simple, non music tasks.
So I hard restarted the iPad and battery went back up to 69% and then resumed its more usual drain rate since. So for some reason the battery meter calibration was knocked for six by something , but this was stopped by rebooting.
I have sometimes seen battery % recover by a few % points by restarting but never by this much.
Anyone have similar? Tracked down any causes etc?

I’m experiencing similar behaviour. It still works as it should as long it’s connected. Planning to upgrade soon but in doubt of the new Pro 11, 12.9 inch or maybe even an Air…
When batteries are at the end of life , their behavior is erratic and the power management hardware/software stops being able to accurately assess how much charge is left…and you get weird information.
My iPad Pro is old enough that if I leave it running and disconnected from power, it'll be completely dead in about 10 minutes. I always keep it connected to power. And I won't get a new iPad Pro due to the lack of a Home button and no 1/8" audio jack. This one is staying with me until it explodes.
Thanks for replies!
Exactly the behavior on my iPod Touch 6th generation (new to me in 2016) and to a lesser extent, my old iPad Mini 2. Just weird jumps in battery capacity.
I decided to have the battery replaced in both and (so far) both are more "normal" - certainly more useable. I've was doing some iPad AUM based ambient meandering on today's flight to Lisbon and it held up pretty well. At least the battery did - will have to listen to what I did when I regain my hearing :-)
Yup - battery replacement looms, just trying to get everything I can out of this one first, as unit is otherwise holding up pretty well on all fronts.
I agree, I've seen MUCH weirder stuff than the OP posted.
I had a phone that i used until it basically couldn't take a charge and in the last months it would periodically show full charge after unplugging from a charger and then show next to no charge after a few minutes -- and after a forced restart show 80% charge and then without warning shut down.
My chunky old iPad 4, is still going strong, My 10.5 Pro is facing battery problems, I wonder if the newer tech in the Pro somehow doesn’t have the endurance of the previous generation’s.
Maybe ... I've been using my iPad for several hours most days for the last 6 years, so the battery has done pretty well all told I reckon.
Just bite the bullet and get a new battery!
Apple don't do it (I think), but third party repairers can
As soon as funds allow I certainly shall
