Z3ta+ preset problems

edited August 2014 in General App Discussion

I just downloaded this app to take advantage of the sale, and to use with the Mac version I own. I've noticed that a high % of the presets simply do not put out any sound. I deleted and reloaded the app, no change. Did a soft reset on my iPad Mini, no change. Just try going through the list of presets and see if you have this issue as well....

Low %, this has been reported in other threads. There's thousands of free presets out there for the synth though, so don't let a few duds spoil the fun.

  • Not a few duds, perhaps 30% don't load....is this what others are experiencing?

  • Yes, quite a few don't work. That's not good.

I have one that has always given me an issue called Flange Stutter - when I select that preset it immediately feeds back (without my having touched a key) then maxes out the volume with a squeal and shuts down all audio til I reboot. I don't know about others, there's 559 to check I've probably tried only 1/5th, which have been fine. I have latency at 512.

  • Problem "solved" by Josh at Cakewalk. Seems the issue is CPU related. Here's his key observation:
"I was able to reproduce the bug with the "Flange Stutter" preset on an iPad 2. The reason this preset is causing issues is that it is very CPU intensive by using multimode on a user wave. This is causing a CPU spike, if this happens, you must close and re-open the app. It has essentially crashed."
So, avoid this particular preset, and if you encounter problems with other presets quit/reboot Z3ta rather than continuing to try....

Thanks to JC_vt and Josh at Cakewalk
It's what I surmised, and what I do, shut down, reboot, avoid the patch. I've looked into other pad patches now, also no doubt CPU intensive, found some that are crunchy sounding, and have begun avoiding them too.

The hitch for me - a small one - is that this is happening not on ipad2 but on iPad 4, airplane mode, nothing in background - Not really a contract breaker, still a killer synth especially via audiobus
