DDMF releases GrandEQ - Mastering Equalizer (soon be available for iOS)

GrandEQ is an equalizer for which superior sonic quality has been the absolutely highest priority in all steps of the development process. Mainly (but not exclusively) aimed at mastering engineers, it incorporates some of the latest research on EQ design. If you can't afford to make any compromises in sound quality, GrandEQ is definitely the way to go.

The plugin will also soon be available for iOS as a plugin in AUv3 format, which you can directly use in compatible hosts like Garageband or Cubasis.

  • Looking forward to this one for my iPad Pro!

  • Wow! Been testing it on PC for few days, and I impressed by sound quality. Getting it on iPad seems like a nice addition, with their Portico emu, amazing Red Rock stuff and Toneboosters/Fabfilter stuff I think we pretty spoiled with HQ mixing tools.

Congrats to Christian and all DDMF team! And thanks for making it available on mobile.

  • Very interesting.

  • Any more details about “the latest research in EQ design”?

I feel it's more 'Sales Lingo'.
Personally I'm more than happy with Pro-Q 3 which covers 99% of the EQ needs I'll ever bump into.

Perhaps they’re taking about linear phase EQ? Maybe they’ve refined it to make it even better? While not a completely new concept, it is “newer” to the world of EQ. Just guessing though…

Something related to phase and "magnitude". For me sounds like Crave eq in mixed phase mode.

To further clarify what is meant by accurate magnitude and phase repsonse, let’s look at a Bell filter (+9 dB at 10 kHz). Looking at the magnitude response of GrandEQ (shown in red in the following image), note that it follows the true analog response (yellow) so close that it is barely visible below 20 kHz. This excellent behaviour also carries over to the phase domain: while all software EQs ultimately show a phase response of 0 at half the sampling (Nyquist) frequency, GrandEQ manages to follow the analog curve all the way until 20 kHz.

I’ve always gone with DDMF’s 6144 EQ, or 4pockets’ Visual EQ on those occasions where I felt like I “needed” an EQ.

I might splurge one day though, and either purchase this new one, or that Fabfilter EQ. Maybe it’d be a good shootout video for Doug @thesoundtestroom, @Gavinski or Leo @sfm ?

For some reason I never get replies from ddmf when I email them to ask for a promo code 🤷‍♂️

I had major latency problems with their ERS250 reverb, mailed to support, never got an answer. Did a refund.

Yeah, there were also very long standing issues with their echorek. I have a feeling they do the ios stuff as a bit of an afterthought. Doesn't make me very inclined to buy their stuff.

  • Yeah I’ve contacted them with a couple issues and never heard back. MagicVerb still has crackling issues but it’s never been updated which is frustrating cos it’s expensive for an app
