We are excited to announce the public beta release of MMM (MagicMidiModulation) - a powerful new AUv3 plugin for iOS that allows you to send up to 24 MIDI CC messages simultaneously and modulate them with up to 24 different modulation sources.

With MMM, you have complete control over how you shape and modulate your MIDI CC messages. You can use any combination of the 24 modulation sources, including LFOs, envelopes, random generators, and more, to create intricate and dynamic modulations.

As part of our public beta program, we invite you to test MMM for free. Your feedback and input are invaluable to us, and will help us refine the plugin and make it even better. To participate in the beta program, simply follow the link below to download the plugin and start using it in your projects. Please note that as a beta release, there may be some bugs and issues that we are still working to address.

!IMPORTANT! MMM is classified as an audio effect plugin NOT a MIDI effect plugin. Its follower modulators need audio input, so you will need to insert it on an audio track. Check the youtube link below for a tutorial using AUM.

Known issues: App icon is just temporary

  • HEEEELLLLLLLLL YEAH!:)

  • 🔥🔥🔥

  • Interesting...

  • I’m completely blown away so many modulation modes, different speed settings, sliders knobs pads & as it’s an audio effect it’s easy to use. Love it 🥰

  • Cool!

    Wait…. It’s an audio effect?

It's mostly a midi effect but it needs to be loaded in the audio slot because some modulators are envelope followers etc

  • Oh yeah, this looks promising.

Very cool, would be it possible to also create a midi au container for this as well? It's possible to create multiple AUs for midi and audio. Other apps like Drambo offer both versions, so they can be used independently depending on the need.

  • It would be possible but it would need to exclude all followers due to the lack of an audio input. Other apps don’t have that problem. So in order to avoid confusion we want to stick to one way of doing it. I think it‘s not too much hassle to put MMM on a dedicated track, maybe even using sends for the input and the sidechains. And the MIDI setup is done in a few seconds either way.

  • Whoa. Now that's interesting.

  • To clear up some confusion for some testers, we've clarified the description a bit:

    !IMPORTANT!
YOU NEED TO INSERT THE PLUGIN AS AN AUDIO EFFECT.

MMM is classified as an audio effect plugin NOT a MIDI effect plugin. Check the youtube link below for a tutorial using AUM. THE PLUGIN DOESN'T PRODUCE ANY SOUND, it only produces MIDI signals. Some of the modulators need audio to drive them.

In the next update we will definitely change the default behaviour to pass audio through (unchanged). Currently you have to change it in the settings menu.

We are working on a proper tutorial style video, we hope the short youtube tutorial is helping - do you think it's enough to get started for now?

  • Yes, > @gsdsp said:

Yes, the short YT tutorial helps.

I’d like to see this set up and controlling CCs in Drambo as well as AUM, in a longer tutorial video.

    Thanks!

Hi @gsdsp : MMM promises to be a very adventurous app! I've pretty much figured out the possibilities by now, and I've only encountered 1 bug: Even if you maximize the window, the background continues to scroll a bit, making changing buttons in the modulation section quite fiddly.
I do have some objections/reservations about the design of the app: the modulation part is not at all intuitive: you just don't see at first glance that there are 24 (!) 'modulators' (LFO's, Amp followers, Zero Crossings, etc., etc.) that can be choosen and activated (everything (in the top-lane) looks gray) and if you realize that after puzzling, you will never be able to check which Control you have assigned which modulator! I also lean towards the objections that the Fabfilter apps have: why is everything so small?! I would also be very satisfied with 12 (instead of 24) 'Controls', which would give more space for buttons, texts and menus in particular. Don't get me wrong: I love these kinds of apps!

  • I think some indication like the white lines square surrounding the modulations, the same would also be handy to indicate the control(s) that are mapped to them when selecting the modulations, It would be nice to see unsolo / unmute all added, please don't reduce the number of controls B)

Thanks for the feedback! Improving the modulation system in general is something we are working on already and we got all the points you mentioned here so far on our list

As for unsolo / unmute, the next update will add some nice behaviour.
When pressing mute or solo for longer than 0.5 s it will trigger the following:

    • if solo/mute was active it will unsolo / unmute all
    • if solo/mute was inactive it will solo-in-place / mute-in-place

Also in the next update, by default it will load a "Standard" preset where the controllers are set up for standard cc messages (Volume, Cutoff, Resonance, etc) for an easy start

  • Hi,
Is it possible to use MMM in Loopy Pro ?... I'm learning LP and can't figure out how to reproduce the midi setup 🙈😅

  • edited March 2023

Haven‘t used Loopy Pro, but the manual says:

    5.5.MIDI #

Loopy Pro supports full MIDI routing: you can send MIDI from a connected MIDI controller to one or more AUv3 Audio Unit synthesisers/virtual instruments, or drive an Audio Unit synthesiser from an Audio Unit MIDI sequencer.

That means it can‘t use MMM as MIDI source since it‘s an audio effect, not a MIDI sequencer.

However, if you enable the Virtual MIDI input in Loopy Pro you can select “Loopy Pro“ as MIDI device destination in MMM. That should work, please let us know how it goes - thanks!

Thank for your answer, but I just don't understand (yet) how midi works in LP… It's damn SO easy in AUM (like you demo it in your short video) but I'm completely lost in LP 😥.

  • It's a bit fiddly in Loopy, just got the 7 day trial and here is how I managed to do it. Since it's not possible to use the internal MIDI output of MMM we need to send the MIDI data to Loopy Pro's Virtual MIDI input. Everything else is just about the way you manage MIDI mappings in Loopy Pro:

    1. Insert MMM in one of the tracks (make sure it's not set to Idle, it should be On of course)
    2. Click the Edit button [ ... ] of the control you want to assign
    3. Choose Loopy Pro from the MIDI device dropdown menu
    4. Decide which channel and cc number (I used Channel 1 / CC1)
    5. Activate Teach mode by clicking [ T ]
    6. Open the Loop Pro settings by clicking the burger icon in the top right
    7. MIDI Control -> Current Project -> Add new binding
    8. Scroll down and select Adjust effect parameter
    9. Target -> Select the FX you want to control -> Select the parameter you want to control
    10. Trigger should show Virtual MIDI In CC 1
    11. Click Save -> Done!
  • Thanks @gsdsp , following your steps didn't work for me… BUT helped me finding my way and figuring out how to make it work :

    1. Insert MMM in the FX slot of an audio track
    2. Click the Edit button [ ... ] of the control
    3. Choose Loopy Pro from the MIDI device dropdown menu
    4. Decide which channel and cc number (I used Channel 1 / CC9 B) )
    5. Activate Teach mode
    6. Open the Loop Pro settings
      7. … here begins the method that works for me
    7. "MIDI Learn"
    8. Select the plug-in in which I want a paramater to be modulated (for instance : Pure Acid's Resonance)
    9. "Adjust Audio Unit Parameter"
    10. "Target Pure Acid > Resonance"
    11. It works ! 🥳
  • Perfect!!🙏🏽🖤🙏🏽

  • I really love the name of this app. Makes this thread easy to find with the Audiobus forum search as I wait for all of you beta testers to do your thing until I can instabuy. 😁

I applaud this super clean approach. 🎖️

  • Big thanks to all the intrepid Beta Testers out there!! We really appreciate your efforts!

The beta phase is officially over now, our next post here is going to be a release announcement 😉

  • I have no idea how I missed this until just now… congrats on the new one @gsdsp I love the look of your apps. Cheers!

  • @gsdsp Wanted to mention the option for host start/stop = modulation start/stop, but likely too late with that!

If you want to stop the modulation you can make use of the parameters "Bypass Modulation", "Global Modulation Amount" or "Modulator Amount x". Also note that when deactivating Sync the modulators will reset on playback start.
