Best iOS stem splitter?

I like using the stem splitter in Koala, but it leaves quite a lot of artifacts. I’m mainly interested in getting the drum track, as clean as possible. Is there anything better than Koala?

Comments

  • Have not found one yet that does not leave artifacts, alas, and would also be very keen to learn of one.

  • You probably have to look at desktop tools to get good results without artifacts.

  • All the iOS options use basically the same open-source library, I believe.

  • BeatMaker 3 give me very good result better than any other iOS app.
But it seems it’s an almost dead app theses days.

  • Anyone try Neon ?

As far as I know, Beatmaker 3 (which is awesome) does not have the sort of stem splitting being discussed

Ok you were talking about separating intrstruments.
I use the AUV3 let’s unmix. Not perfect
But the one I try on desktop are not better.
Which 9ne do use on desktop that give better results?

  • 'Let's Unmix' if I understand you correct. Has IAP for premium. https://apps.apple.com/se/app/lets-unmix/id1500367180?l=en

  • Wim is correct. I would suggest, that you should try to use audiostrip.co.uk, as this gives the cleanest output so far without having to pay any money.

Be sure to use any audio stripper that utilises the "Demucs" method.

  • Try the MVSep website too (just don’t hold up the queue for too long please 😂)

IZotope RX. I have got near-perfect results with it.

IZotop RX is based on the Deezer open source splitter, this is specified on the github page https://github.com/deezer/spleeter

Pretty sure let's Unmix and Kolala are based on the this programm

Maybe the software that it’s wrapped in does a better job in RX? I have extracted drums, bass and vocals with next to nothing in the way of unwanted artifacts, so if Koala does have artifacts it could be due to it utilizing the open source code in a different way.

One needs to compare extraction from the same sources. I don’t have izotope RX but experimented some with Spleeter and the artifacts vary from source to source.

There may be some settings also that reduce artifacts and maybe Koala uses different ones.

I’d be interested in a comparison of extraction from the same file.

I don’t have Koala so can’t make that kind of comparison.

However, I have had success with a variety of different pieces of music from different eras with a lot of variety in how they are mixed.

The only thing I remember having any issues with are pieces with complex backing vocals. Drums have been flawless every time.

  • Not iOS but the best one on desktop is RipX by quite a margin

    Bleh... Really??!

The original poster is trying to get good drums with no artifacts on IOS; drums come out terribly in Transcribe+ and are chock full of artifacts. Maybe devs can address it but for now drum stems and artifacts from Transcribe+ are just atrocious as of my last try with it (of many tries) just two weeks or so ago.

I had my own long experience with Transcribe+ in mind when typing my previous remark:

"Have not found one yet on IOS that does not leave artifacts, alas, and would also be very keen to learn of one."

Unfortunately for now we are left waiting and hoping for something that it seems does not yet exist on IOS.

If you just want an app for figuring out guitar parts or something it's "ok" -but for clean stems usable for other purposes like a decent backing track, drums with no artifacts or something similar, forget it (for now).

Meanwhile don't throw your money into the fire good peeps.
