iPad FX chain as replacement for Hologram Microcosm
Ok.. here opening brainstorming.
Let's say i want to build on iPad (in AUM for sake of simplicity) chain of plugins which will be capable at least partially substitue Hologram Microcosm ( https://www.hologramelectronics.com/microcosm )
So kind of granular looper / delay / reveb / glitch mangler
Any tips ?

Gauss / iDensity + Silo + Other Desert Cities? Or just Fluss?
thanks for tips.. Fluss is interesting but at first look i feel like i have absolute zero control over sound there:-)) Will try it a bit more cause there is definitely potential ..
Other desert cities is just FANTASTIC ! Didn't know about this one, thanks !
I think combination of Replicant 3, Other Desert Cities and Alteza will do the job perfectly ..
Totally forgot about Alteza. Excellent choice. Another combo to try out would be Tardigrain + Rymdigare.
Fluss is very controllable imho.
If you want to get the effect of the Interrupt mode on the Microcosm, I think Replicant is a must. Some of the other modes, like Arp and Seq, would be difficult to get even with this combination of apps; I’m not really sure of anything that does precisely what those algorithms do.
I think we have another thread on this. One thing to try is a feedback loop in AUM. You can put a granulator in a delay’s feedback loop, or vice versa.
@audiblevideo
considering fact i just bought octatrack,
i’ here trying to not spend another 500€ for another hw box.
Videos like this doesn’t help at all 🤣🤣🤣
@dendy, Cameron is using (free!) desktop plugins here but it may at least give you ideas about what to put in your chain:
(BTW I'm having the exact same issue - I really like this thing but i totally don't want to buy it 🙂)
😂🤝
For more Microcosm non-ambience, Andre LaFosse has a set of demo videos using it alone and in combination with some other looping gear:
Aren't we all!
This one is loosely based on Microcosm:

Seriously. I have an Eventide H90 and a Glou-Glou Loupé on my board, and yet I’m still actively restraining myself from picking up a Microcosm. It helps that I don’t actually have room for another pedal right now.
Bleass granular is also good to add to this list.
As much as I like Tardigrain, I don't think you can use it as a real time effect as you need to record manually.
A combination of iDensity and Fluss in parallel fed into Rymdigare gives some interesting results indeed.
interesting, thanks will definitely check it
Me too. I've been waiting for the Drambo suggestions to show up. I'm hoping it could be another solution. Although creating an effects chain, or a number of effects chains, to use as alternative presets, in AUM, feels a little like creating a boutique pedal.
I love the plugins from Puremagnetik for that reason. They feel like beautiful, simple, yet musical, boutique pedals that loop, layer, sample, and granulate, among other things.
I would say Enso.
Loopy Pro as fx + retrospective
Drambo as fx.
Mutemaster
Focus on recording/loop workflow first
Then fx
Blackhole, replicant, dubstation.
30 different options.
Its not easy when anything is possible.
Dissect what you want to happen, when, how, context, moment. User flow.
Sketching this out is a skill on itself i wish i had.
I'm running a little note file in iA Writer on this, various notes and threads and sequences etc. But I feel it's heading to notebook/sketchbook territory, with some diagrams too. It feels like quite the creative process.
I´d say Fluss for granular effects, maybe Spacefield for microloops, GlitchCore for glitches, OtherDesertCities is a good one as well for delay/reverse/grains.. and a lush reverb at the end, like Stratosphere
Yup, I’ve had one sitting in my cart at Hologram since early last year 😂
Andre is the reason I wanted a Glou-Glou looper sooooooooo bad.
I put myself on the list but never pulled the trigger cause of lack of funds
Yeah, he was a big part of my deciding to take the plunge on one. So worth it. And the new OS will add some great functionality - keep an eye out for his videos on that (coming soon, I hope!).
How to operate it … some getting started guide would be appreciated for this one. Anyone with some basic usage insights?
Great advice, May be a struggle to replicate a Microcosm exactly, but think of the infinite possibilities on iOS that a Microcosm can't replicate! Roll your own with iOS, then when happy, demo to someone with a Microcosm and you may elicit a look of nervous bewilderment.
I am not saying that Fluss is the right app for what you are looking for, but is you feel like you have little or not control over the sound, it is worth taking another look again at the docs and exploring each control by itself with a straightforward sound source to get a feel for what the controls do. There is a lot of influence to be had.
To emulate this particular use I would be using Turnado into Enso.
