When What You Want is Just Out of Reach

edited March 2023 in Desktop

Right now I am drooling over a plugin that will cost me AU$240. My birthday just passed and funds are tight so I can't have it. Like I said though, I really want it. So I think about it a lot, look at it a lot and just basically torture myself.

So, what do you do when this predicament arises?

I think back to the countless things I've wanted just as bad that never ended up being nearly as satisfying as I thought they'd be once I had them. It gets easer the older you get. 😬

  • Usually I sell gear I'm not really using to fund new purchases. While there's a few pieces that I will never part with, I'm fine getting rid of something I'm not using to get something I know I will. Heck, there's even been a few times I've re-bought gear I sold when I'm ready to dive back in. So nothing ever really feels permanent if I change my mind.

By stuff on sale, that helps if can do it.

I normally put on some music to distract me.

I suggest The Rolling Stones LP "Let It Bleed". Side 2, track 4.

    This is very true!

But yes, maybe some kind of distraction technique will also work instead: buy an app you've been holding off on that's a lot cheaper instead, a complex one where you'll have to read the manual and spend time to get the best from it, maybe.

    Beatcutter it is then.

    Hahaha

  • If there’s an app or plugin I want that I can’t afford right away, I go back and play with all the ones I DO have. This usually relieves some of the lusting desire haha

I tend to do that to STOP me from selling things.

Recently I overhauled my very 1st digital system that started with a single DSP card (almost exactly) 20 years ago... adding 3 cards with more power and 48 digital io channels.

In a moment of self-confession I had to admit that I didn‘t need any other plugins than what I already had collected* :o
The few exceptions are Valhalla reverbs, MultitrackDAW, SamplR, ApeFilter and Sparkle, iVCS3 and the PPGs.
(considering Audiobus, AUM, Audioshare „system parts“)

(*) that collection wasn‘t cheapo, though... $250 per plugin wasn‘t usual those days, but in the end it was worth the investment.
@Ailerom relaxe and just ignore the delay. If your plugin is also worth the investment, you‘ll get it anyway ;)
