I love your free Pianos SF2’s. They work great in KQ Sampei too. Very solid sf2 engine.

I'm noob in that domain. Is KQ Sampei the best and cheapest option on iOS to read sf2 files?

I am pretty sure that the cheapest and simplest is "SoundFonts" by B-Ray Software.

KQ Sampei is cheaper, lighter, with more options as I see.

Indeed, my mistake! I thought KQ Sampei was more expensive. As I have both, I could not see the prices on the app store, sorry.
And yes KQ has more features. I like both.

I can’t remember what Bismarck cost. It’s my usual go-to for SoundFonts but as someone else mentioned SoundFonts AU is very reasonable. But I think Sampei is the cheapest (and seems to be really great. Also the Taqsim SoundFont app is free but may need to pay for AU/import, I’m not entirely sure as I have the full unlock.

The various soundfont player apps do behave a little differently because they have different sound engines and sometime interpret things like filter cut-off differently. If you want to use Soundfonts by B-Ray Software you will need this file instead of the above mentioned
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Io7WkKsIvFzZI0xymW0MWh-2JxQmUbpX/view?usp=share_link

In short if you find there is not enough variation in the different presets for each piano then use this one. Out of the two files I've compiled - one will be best for your app of choice. They are both available on my site as well https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/
To summarise - for bs16i app use "Piano Collection-SF4U-v1.0" (now v1.5)
for SoundFonts by B-Ray use "Piano Collection-SF-BRay-v1.0"
I dont know which would be best for KQ Sampei - someone might let me know.
    Cheers

  • Hi Reuben,

Thanks for making these soundfonts and the tips about the different apps!

  • An updated version (better dynamics on some presets) is now available - links in first post have been updated. This applies to both the Steinway set and the 4 piano set. Enjoy.

@zvon Let me ask you ... Is it possible to use soundfont files from external USB drive in KQ Sampei? Or Do I have to have then in internal iPad storage?

I don’t know for sure as I have not tested it.
    Has anyone tried it?
