macOS Ventura 13.3 Update—Bug Reports
I threw caution to the wind and went ahead and updated to Ventura 13.3 for macOS and my advice is...
...DON'T DO IT.
It is buggy and has managed to turn GarageBand into a complete pile of garbage. A number of my plug-ins are popping up as destabilizing GarageBand and I even opened a project and got a massive earful of feedback (for no reason).
Thanks a lot, Apple for this bug ridden mess. I really needed this.

Thanks for the warning - I’ve been debating whether to update from Big Sur as IDAM no longer works, but I think I’ll pass!
I am still shaking from the earsplitting feedback I got from my speakers and now I cannot create anything in GB on desktop. Just playing a project causes ALL audio to stop—across the board—on my computer. I have to shut down and restart the entire computer just to regain audio. Unbelievable.
Any issues with other DAW’s? Maybe just GB updates are out of sync.
Anyone else experiencing issues, please post them here.
ZERO issues so far with the apps I use on a daily basis which include, Renoise, SunVox and Logic.
I was expecting an avalanche of updates from Apple so maybe they are just a bit late on delivery this time around...
Yesterday updated my 16" Macbook M1 Pro to Ventura 13.3. Like @samu no issues. All is working as it should be.
(Ableton Live 11, Logic Pro, Bitwig, Renoise, VCV Rack Pro and some VST plug-ins)
I updated but didn’t check everything. I’ll probably do that later to see if anything broke.

I know FullBucket synths are not approved by Apple (and I might have to uninstall all of those)? But yesterday the massive ear shattering feedback event I experienced happened when I opened a project which only used Cherry Audio synths and they are an approved developer.
Just launched GB to see what's what (M2 MBA, for what it's worth). No problems with the projects I opened, though it did pop up a warning that it needed to "Lower security settings" or some such to open one of the plugins. Don't have any Cherry Audio plugins to test.
No problems either with Logic Pro, Ableton Live (Lite, version 11) and Drambo.
That said, it seems like a non-trivial release so I'm not too surprised to hear about others running into bugs.
Incidentally, where can one adjust the security settings for plugins anyway in GarageBand... General Settings?
I forgot to mention I'm getting another very odd bug in GarageBand now.
One project (so far) will open in GarageBand, yet it is completely invisible. GarageBand becomes invisible also. I can tap the spacebar and it'll play and it is audible. I can send the file to be rendered as a finished piece for distribution. But I cannot see anything on screen while doing these things. It is the weirdest bug I have ever seen.
I can Open a different file, then some GB elements pop-up and become visible, then when the new file opens everything goes back to normal (except for the possibly plugin related problems).
That's a feature, not a bug.
I'm stoked. If I can make GarageBand invisible, I might actually be able to get myself to use it. 😛
Fingers crossed they port that feature over to iOS!
😭
It was a dialogue box that popped up for me, basically with "OK" and "Cancel" options if I recall correctly. I'm guessing it was setting a file attr but I honestly don't know.

Haven’t experienced any issues with GarageBand now that I have checked. All seems good with Logic and Live too, with no plugins not working.
I'm still on Monterey. The only thing from Ventura that looks neat is Stage Manager.
I’ll update when Logic Pro has enough new features that it’s worth it….until then I’m all about that big sur
With nothing to lose (except for possibly wasted time) trying to get my GarageBand problems solved, I took the leap and downloaded a trial version of Logic Pro… and it worked. I was able to identify and exclude all of the problem plugins AND open all of my malfunctioning files. Guess I’m finally going to buy Logic Pro now. I can’t wait for a fix for GarageBand which might take weeks or months.
Logic Pro works flawlessly on this Ventura update so far. And this won’t be a surprise to people who already use it, but I had no idea about the high quality of instruments in this software.
And here's my list of plugins (nearly all of which previously worked in GarageBand) which do not work in Logic Pro. Many more work than do not, so I have alternatives for most of these.
Well, Apple's diabolical plan paid off then.
(Totally just messing with ya'.)
Can't you just reinstall the previous OS version from your backup and wait until Apple gets things fixed?
I've tried to avoid jumping into Logic Pro all this time because of the extra layers of complications. [Shrug]
Go figure, most of those are primarily iOS apps not even designed to be run in macOS…
As I said, all of them previously worked in GarageBand.
I'm sorry to hear about your problems with GarageBand I know it's been the cornerstone of your workflow for a long time.
Then wait for a GarageBand update as there’s been plenty of security related fixes under the hood…
..and report it back to Apple as well if you haven’t already
What really surprised me is that Apple didn’t (as they usually do) release app updates at the same time.
For my old Intel Mini the updated graphics drivers added a very welcome performance boost.
It’ll all get fixed in due time.
Cheers!
I think it might be Apple's not-so-subtle way of goading me into finally moving on to Logic Pro.
Yes, since GarageBand first appeared on Apple computers. Prior to that I had been using Apple's Soundtrack (2004-ish, I think). It has not always been smooth sailing. Thanks.
Could be
I've owned Logic for many, many years and I'm mentally prepared that Logic 11 could become a 'paid update'.
...went full on Logic when I got fed up with the limitations present in GarageBand.
Some of the audio-editing features in Soundtrack were top-notch and are still missing today in Logic...
...they are however present in Adobe Audition. (If I recall correctly some Apple audio peeps jumped ship over to Adobe).
Hopefully this will be sorted out, I don't remember the full 'terminal lingo' to enable quarantined plug-ins in GarageBand but it can be done. It also works for 'unsigned' plug-ins in Logic Pro.
It's all related to the xattr command in the terminal...
(SunVox as one example needs to be 'un quaranteed' to be able to freely access all files on the system).
Cheers!
