Can we no longer post in off-topic.

Seems that option has gone.

For whatever reason it's invisible on the site, except if you know how to get there: https://forum.audiob.us/categories/off-topic

    Just make yourself a bookmark.

If you click on the New Discussions button, off topic is no longer an option.

EDIT: seems if you go to off top and hit new discussions you can still post. That's a bit odd.

EDIT2: I wonder if this has anything to do with Michaels announcement on the 29th.

Hm. I assume this is the result of some kind of bad behaviour somewhere in Off Topic? Pity though, as it leaves nowhere visible to post about music-adjacent stuff, e.g. other media, soundtracks, games etcetera. I’ve learned of new artists I now like, developments in AI which have fed back into my music making and artwork for albums, and more from such posts, it’ll be a shame to lose simple access to them. Could have severe consequences for the vibe of the place if the only permitted discussion is effectively all apps/hardware all the time.

  • Maybe it was a mistake? I thought I remembered from Michael's message that only the recent events thread was being closed, which probably is a good idea. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I don't think off topic was supposed to be removed from the main categories page?

  • I suspect Michael has decided enough is enough (and quite right) This forum should be about music only. At least that’s what I take from this post on the 29th : https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/54919/welcome-to-the-audiobus-forum-some-quick-ground-rules#latest

    Yeah. Was wondering the same.

It doesn't show in the sidebar, but if you click Categories you can find it. That's only one more click and a quick scroll once you know what to do.

I have a feeling it is gone due to recent drama and hence @Michael ’s ‘welcome to Audiobus’ announcement.
I was lucky to have missed all of it so happy to be corrected by those in the know.

It likely just boils down to trying to stop this becoming a place for random shit.

  • Yes totally, but I think the main problems were happening in the Recent Events tab. As Wim said and as others mentioned earlier, you can still post to and read off topic stuff, it's just that you need to know how to do it, which will likely leave many new members a bit lost.

  • Yeah, you guys surmised correctly – that was a deliberate move, to keep this forum exclusively about music making, with the intention of cutting down on side squabbles. New rules, new mods, and I’m bowing out of the moderation game entirely, as I’ve had enough and want to spend my time doing things that I actually like 😅

  • Thanks Michael for the update.

Huge thanks for all that you did so far, and an even bigger thank you for providing such a great platform <3

I must confess though that the "side squabbles" had their charm at times, at least if they weren't insulting, too political or too negative.

Fair play, cheers Michael, and I think we'd all agree that whatever helps to keep things polite and harmonious and limit needless acrimony among members is the number one priority. Thank you for maintaining this space. 🙏

  • Michael's "welcome" text says it pretty clearly:

"Please keep all content related to music and music-making."

    Good move.

  • Do we have any kind of list over the current mods?

    That would be useful
