Drones

Hello folks,

What are you all using for drones sounds on the iPad? I have Mononoke, but I'm a bit bored of the sound of it, used it for a long time. I'm specifically looking for drones suited to more melodic styles of music, ambient etc, rather than harsh industrial type drones.

Thanks all!

    I use:

    Shoom
    Fundamental
    Borderlands granular

Depending on my mood. All of them great for drones, but fundamental only really has one “sound” and borderlands is a granular synth that can make drone out of any sample.

Shoom is 3 polyphonic synths in one it’s old but easily one of the best iOS synths

  • @Nasatyuana Fluss is also great for drones.
    I too love Mononoke.
You can also make great drones with Gauss, Factory Synth, au GEN X, SynthScaper, GlitchScaper, iVCS3, Fundamental, SoundScaper & FieldScaper

  • Apps but sometimes ( I think )

    Resonators effects via midi.

  • Almost anything through the Max Cloud preset in Velvet Machine.

Just tried it, unreal results. Thanks

These, plus a few other bits and bobs from various synths and effects processing, such as Velvet Machine, Black Hole.

  • my favs (and used live with love) are:
    Shoom and
    Aparillo +
one that its not mentioned here - dunno why -
THE no1 versatile droner for me - it has everything -
you can even use it standalone (because of superbe fx)
    is Factory
    https://sugar-bytes.de/factory-ipad

    note:
I've never seen Factory as a "synth":)
its THE drone factory to me.
morph and mutate and the fx section made it my dream droner,
    in software or harware!

  • If you want to get into the nuts and bolts, you can do a lot with MiRack. In particular the Dronez oscillator through the Stairway filter, and into the Valley Plateau reverb, with lots of slow modulation on all three from various LFOs.

  • Oh man there’s a ton. Droneo, DR-0M, Glitchscaper, Fluss, Gauss, Fundamental, Thermo, Mononoke, Animoog Z, Drone Machine from Taqsim, Autopad through some effects, Aparillo, Elastic Drums, Shoom, iDensity, Tardigrain, FRMS, Skiiid, or various sequencers through other apps. I love some drones if you can’t tell lol

Also Eternal Flow Drone, Ephemeral, and DroneLab are great.

I forget I have AU Gen X sometimes, it’s a truly great app. That through Other Desert Cities, Velvet Machine, Blackhole, ESO 2 , etc is just otherworldly.

  • I do love Bleass Granulizer and Velvet Machine for melodic drones. In Gadget I use Kiev and on the IFX I put a reverb and feedback reverb and adjust the parameters to taste.

  • Very very interesting answer. I need to revisit factory then. Do you have some startingpoint or do you go wild with the randomizer (dice ball) and drown it in reverb? Hm 🤔

Aparillo and Factory are great answers for sure. Really any of the modular synths on iOS are great for this. KQ Mini, Ripplemaker, MiRack, Audulus, Branches.

I forgot to add PaulXStretch (I use it so often that it's not in my Drone folder, it's in my Studio folder.

There's an interesting tutorial video about using PaulXStretch on iPad that I just came across:

  • Skiiid the odd little drum machine has a cool drone mode that can create some interesting sounds. You can randomly generate sounds too then tweak away.

    Droneo but IAA only

Autopad by the developer of Zoa and Ooda is pretty cool, doesn’t have a ton of sounds but you can load your own.

    True.

On sale now, it looks interresting.
    Thanks.

Did you add news apps recently to your drone section?

  • not OP but it's been a good month for drones... Hilda, Noises and Broohahazier are all excellent for drones, not to mention Cascade...
