AUv3 FX with midi learn?
As I’ve been trying to convert more of my live keyboard rig to the iPad (my pedal board in this case), I realized that there’s a lack of AUv3 FX with a midi learn function. I’ve got a couple but they’re not working for this purpose (Timeless 3, Rymdigare). What are my options here?
I’m specifically looking for:
BBD/Tape Echo (Kai Aras RE-1 looks like a good possibility??? )
Reverb (spring, plate, hall type of vibes…Drambo?)
Chorus (surprise me…not looking for gentle, it needs to get weird)
Distortion/Saturation (something simple is fine…probably not Saturn…but maybe 🤔…no, not Saturn)
I’m tweaking these effects live so they need to operate smoothly while twiddling knobs.
Currently using Camelot Pro as a host because program changes are instant. iPad Air 4
Whatcha got, Audiobus Forum?

I don't know Camelot, but there are MIDI hosts like AUM and AudioBus3 that allow you to control plugin parameters via Midi. They can be configured both manually and via Midi learn. The problem with this is that often only a sub set of a plugins controls is exposed as AU parameter.
If Camelot Pro is an AU host it should have a way to control AUv3 parameters in its own system without the need for plugins to have cc mappings. Pretty lame if it doesn’t, considering the price.
I can’t tell if it does or not due to the lack of a manual.
Yeah, I feel ya. That seems to be one area that it could really use some work in Camelot. You can map a lot of Camelot’s own parameters but I have yet to find a way to do it with 3rd party AUv3’s. As far as price goes, I did buy it on sale so it wasn’t outrageous.
I originally started with AUM for this reason BUT it takes too long to load a session. Camelot is great at that though. You can switch sessions instantly and still have reverb tails and delays ring out from the previous session.
That’s an interesting aspect of Camelot. Looks interesting to me, but probably requires a lot of CPU and memory for seamless switching. Very likely too much for my non-pro iPad 9th gen.
However, I wonder if this might be of help to you:

Thanks, @catherder. There are a decent amount of Camelot parameters exposed and I’ve figured that part out. Most of that is not necessary for my particular use though. I need to be able to adjust delay time/feedback/etc…
I’m open to using another host (looked at Keystage but I think it has the same issue).
But, I’m sure there are enough AUv3’s with internal midi learn where I can make this work. Right?
I think MIDI learn inside an AUv3 plugin is pretty rare. You will probably find it in some synth plugins, but I just checked some audio effects, and they did not have this feature. This makes sense from the developer perspective: One button less on the UI. And why implement a feature that many hosts do offer?
Definitely rare, I’ve got a pretty decent collection of AUv3’s and only a handful have midi learn…
Timeless 3 (great delay but it doesn’t do what an analog BBD pedal does when you adjust the time).
Rymdigare (another cool one that I may be able to tame for my reverb uses, just not what I’m initially looking for in a stage reverb)
Drambo (I thought this might be the ONE! But, the chorus is weak, the delay doesn’t do the BBD thing, no straight up distortion/overdrive, the reverb is ok and may work for me)
MiRack (lots to choose from here and I need to do more experimenting but it currently causes dropouts in Camelot when parameters are tweaked)
So, back to the initial question…what AUv3’s effects DO have midi learn? 😁
