Best sequencer to sequence drum samples (BM3, Beathawk)

Hey guys

I have very, very nice midi sequencers for melodic lines. However, I’m looking to sequence some sample pads, namely in BM3 and Beathawk (when used as an AUV3 inside of BM3 or AUM). As a drum midi sequencer works fundamentally different compared to Fugue Machine or StepPolyArp, I am looking for some guidance from you guys.

Any recommendations? I’d appreciate 1 bread and butter sequencer for drums and one a little bit out there (e.g. a Euclidean sequencer), if yous can think of some. :)

  • drambo can do all that. it set up way over complicated, but it will do everything.

Maybe Midi Drums (comes as part of midi dreams)? The Rhythm and x0x apps in the Rozeta bundle are useful. Maybe Strokes as the out-there option?

  • Hi @christsinfamie, there are some great options. Octachron and Polybeat come up a lot for good reason, and I'm very partial to the Rozeta Suite of MIDI plugins that includes "Rozeta Rhythm", which does euclidean sequencing and has nice randomization IMO. Rozeta also includes a bunch of other valuable MIDI sequencers and utilities, so I consider it kind of a must-have. Note that Octachron and the Rozeta drum apps are limited to 8 parts.

  • I do all my drum sequencing in NS2, and it's awesome.

No Drambo can’t time stretch a sample and play polyphonically with it as BeatMaker 3 does, it also cant stream sample so sample loading it is limited by the the Ram. Drambo is a killer app but still cant match BeatMaker 2 sampler.

So many ways to do drums.. It’s basically what suits your taste…

AI, Probability takes things to a new level… Playbeat 3, Hammerhead, EG Pulse… etc. etc.

Wish Lumbeat brings his to Auv3..

the OP was asking for a AUv3 midi sequencer to trigger BM3 or beathawk, at least that was my understanding...

  • Any votes for DigiStix?

  • Beathawk still crashing a lot ?

Sorry I misread the message, you are right.

Can you use it inside another DAW as an AU? Just aware NS2 doesn’t do audio?

  • Polybeat is a very good beat sequencer imho, and it already has midi mapping included for many apps including BeatHawk.

I use 4pockets Multitrack Recorder to bring the audio into NS2, and from there I use Slate to create the drums.

NS2 has the best sequencer on iOS IMO, and Slate is great for drums because you can tap out the rhythms and use the Y axis of the pads to control velocity. The only thing missing is round-robin, we need a proper AUv3 drum sample app to provide that.

In the meantime I create my own kits in NS2, from Drum Drops, iOS apps such as Soft Drummer, and free samples from the internet.

  • I use Octachron a lot for drums sequencing, but I've discovered (really 🤪🙈) the possibilities in Zenbeats, and I must say that it's a pure gem !

  • Octachron and Polybeat are probably my 2 favorites for that but the Rozeta suite is great as well. Playbeat 3 is amazing for more random/glitchy stuff. And apps like Cykle, Euclidean, and Autony are great for experimental offbeat rhythms.

  • Sugarbytes DrumComputer has a brilliant sequencer with MIDI out.

  • Another vote for Octachron.

    Octachron
Rozeta - has a few, Euclidean one called Rhythm, plus Xox for drums
    Polybeat
    Hammerhead
    Digistix 2
    Playbeat

Yea many ways, Any sequencer will do but the ones above are geared towards drum sequences. Heck even just a piano roll, drawing it in or recording from another app.

  • Drambo Id think.

I can even sidechain across ipads with a kick drum.

I always forget about other apps that have midi out and end up just using sequencers. Need to try Hammerhead and DrumComputer as sequencers.
